"Mother, why does the tooth fairy take my tooth and leave a copper?"
TOOTH DEMON
Every child knows that if you leave a lost tooth under your pillow when you go to sleep, the tooth fairy steals it away and leaves you a copper. They don't know that those fairies are protecting the children from their counterparts, the tooth demons.
With a hunger for fresh marrow, a tooth demon has a particular sense for newly lost teeth. Just like their fey counterparts, they steal into children's rooms at night unseen. They will then snatch away the child to gobble them up, crunching merrily on their bones.
The tooth demons and fairies have waged this war for centuries. Some say that the demons are born from tooth fairies that took a liking to the taste of children's teeth — which begs the question of who came first, the fairies or the demons.
Aversion to Copper. The tooth fairies know the demon's weakness to copper and leave a coin to protect the children.
Relentless Hunger. A tooth demon's hunger knows no limit. It is constantly on the prowl for new bones to devour and will fight other demons over a single tooth.
