All the drawings of sword mimics I found for reference were... really cute?  I kind of want a character to have a little one as a pet.  A dagger mimic, I guess?

If that mimic had pretended to be a hammer then it could have joined the party as Cleric's sapient weapon.

Reminds me of ‘Dungeon is Delicious’, a dnd style manga about a group of adventurers tackling a dungeon... and eating the monsters (highly recommend). One of the characters gets a new sword after facing a group of living armor (who are actually mollusk like beings manipulating them), the sword having one of the mollusks in it and helpfully detecting danger and stuff. Here, yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if Fighter started duel wielding.
