Dropped Popcorn on the Villain's Box Seat. (It sounds like the title of a metal album, I know.)

I'm going to take this space to complain about something tangential. I hate DMs who adhere to "if you don't kill PCs, you're doing it wrong." I see this attitude a lot on RPG subreddits, where the implication is lethality is the only way to create tension and stakes. I think it's a difference in approach, the game vs. the story. I play because I want to make a story, and typically one that doesn't end with "and then the dragon crits and kills everyone." That's not a satisfying consequence to my choices, it's an abrupt end to a lovingly crafted idea. I don't think there's anything "wrong" with the gamey approach, but I definitely wouldn't want that to be the norm for me. Uh... I mean, oh no! I hope Cleric has enough diamonds to get the group out of this jam!

I feel the same way! I get very attached to my characters, and if they DO die, I want it to be meaningful for the story in some way, not just because the dice got lucky (or unlucky).
