Community Post - Discord Access Tip (Patreon)

Hi guys,

I've been seeing a recurring issue with Discord, which has been preventing patrons from being able to access the server.

The Tempest Discord Server is the very heart of our little community. I can't overstate just how valuable a resource it is, especially to anyone who is new to this and looking to connect with others for a little guidance. I definitely encourage any of you who haven't already to get yourself connected.

Joining the server should be simple: you simply just add your discord account to your Patreon account. For some people this doesn't work however and they are unable to see the server. I actually get more DMs about this one issue than anything else. Thankfully one of my Patrons gave me a troubleshooting procedure, for which I am very grateful and I am going to share with you below:

The issue appears to be related to discord’s age verification requirements. Essentially, you have to make sure that your date of birth is set in Discord.

1. Access Discord through the app on Windows/Mac.

2. Go to user settings and select "Family Center”. This should result in a pop-up for age verification.

3. After inputting your age go to "Privacy & Safety" under user settings.

4. Allow all age restricted settings and select "Do not filter" for image/spam filters

5. Access Patreon and go to Settings.

6. Under "More" select "Connected Apps”.

7. Disconnect and reconnect the discord app.

8. Go to Tempest MAx Patreon page.

9. Under "Membership" select "Open Discord server”. This should automatically launch discord in a new webpage assuming you are already signed into discord on that browser and it will update your Discord app.
