art update 26 (Patreon)
Content
It was even the first time the coder had to remind me he needed a certain set of pics rather sooner than later! Not because I've been twiddling my thumbs(no sir!), it's just that I have so many different things on the "stove" currently I lost track of the right order in which to finish things.
It's not like I can just bury the coder in all the necessary art five days before a build and expect him to magically weld it together. So I made a full stop on all the other stuff I was doing and made sure he had what was needed within a day or so. Which by the way were new idles for an original character.
Those new idles also inspired me to start drawing on a slightly larger resolution for the original files. The game will still have the same resolution, but coloring and details are simply a bit easier for me to do when the original files are larger. You'd think it's just a matter of upping the resolution and simply increase the brush size, but I've been working on a relatively lower res for such a long time it almost feels unnatural for me to not be able to count the individual pixels as I work on details.
I still don't want to tell you much more than that I've been working on the Toph scenes. Our little lady has been keeping me busy spread out over several close to be finished scenes. I'm honestly having a very hard time considering a scene done right now. There's constantly a stronge urge to add a little something here and there. It's the never-quite-finished syndrome!
The phrase "A man's reach should extend his grasp" is something which pops into my mind, but I'd rather grasp and reach at the same time. just not to the extend we have to lower our ambition. Hmmmmm, honestly that applies more to the coder than me, but I'll happily get sucked into the madness every now and then.
At the very least I'm happy we have two months this time to give us some more room to do our grasping and we're doing our best to make it count. Right now I'm working on some more backgrounds. Just temporary placeholders for the coder to plug in and which can be swapped out at the very last second for better versions. It gives me the necessary time to improve upon them without holding back the coder. He's having his own hydra's to fight :) and I certainly don't won't to make things worse for him.
We're already at the halfway mark of the month and we did promise we'd show more of Toph in the next art update. So that's pretty much now! You know how much I dislike showing stuff before you've been able to see it ingame, but a promise is a promise!
So first off, Toph won't be as flat as a board. Her clothed idles will pretty much make it seem like she is, but she's definitely not a boy as you can see in the episode "the beach". Oh sure, she's decidedly small sized, but not without any curves. Exactly how curvy? You'll have to find out while playing
Giving the option to the player to be able and buy a scroll like in book 1 with Katara has been suggested a lot of times, but honestly, that will just take me too much time to include. Book 1 was far more limited in scope, and I really don't want to end up in a situation where I'm going to end up hating to draw Toph scenes because of boobs.
Don't worry, we have a few surprises up our sleeve which we think you'll like and should hopefully fill up any void! Toph isn't the only girl in book3 after all!
In fact I'm very curious what you guys'll think of the direction of book3 and can't wait to finally be able and show you what we've been up to.
We do have few more weeks to add and polish content but from our perspective those'll be over in a huff and a puff. For anyone out there eager to get their hands on it I hope time will go just as fast!
Till next time!
