Hi...  So I was rendering with Octane and everything was going mostly okay.  But when I hit frame 739 or so, it started crashing.  And it crashed consistently after a specific number of samples had been rendered.

So I tried lowering the total samples to just below this number, and it managed to successfully render the frame.  I did a few more frames and then it crashed again.  Same thing; I lowered the samples to evade the crash point and it worked.  Well this kept going and going until I had gone from 1300 samples to 160.  And the resulting renders get grainier and grainier the more the samples are lowered.

The guy who sent me this GPU believes this is because my machine is running out of memory.  Maybe so..  I cannot confirm this is the case.  It was enough memory to render without Octane.  So he is going to send me an additional 16GB memory stick and I guess we'll see what happens.

This odyssey into Octane has been one enormous headache and I don't think I want to mess with it ever again.  Converting my scene to work within Octane's limitations was a major undertaking that wasted so much time...  And now it's crashing if I look at it wrong.  I feel as if I owe you all an apology for this thing dragging on and on.  I am very annoyed right now.  I guess I have to wait until the memory arrives now.  I can work on the next animation instead of babysitting this clunky render system.

That’s rough, I didn’t spend much time with Octane (just the C4D plug-in) so I can’t speak to its performance but I wasn’t a fan. Most things that I thought it did well I can do in Blender shader/geometry nodes now

No worries CG it’s a complicated process you’re going through. We can wait, keep pushin bud
