Big thanks to those of you who've bought my latest album. I'm already working on new music, with a view to doing something that sounds quite different next time. I kind of want to do some sort of concept album, or continuous suite of music, with a narrative. But we'll see what happens.

At the minute, I'm sort of in the R&D phase, so I bought myself some new software with a view to getting some better guitar sounds in there. This is my first experiment with it. It was only meant to be me playing around, but it turned out better than I expected. This is only a work-in-progress demo, so some of the mastering is a bit rough and 'peak-y' in places. But I thought some of you might be interested to hear it.

Sounds good, you captured the ringing tones (where unmuted or open strings continue vibrating between notes) nicely with however you are processing the sustain. Are you using any virtual amplifier VSTs? They can help to smooth off some of the sharpness of synthesised guitar tones in a mix. Bias FX and Amplitube are two that offer limited feature demos to see if it’s another rabbit hole you want to disappear down! I use them to further process real recorded guitars in mixes as I can’t play guitar loud enough in my house to really get a good rock sound from the real amps so a bit of fairy dust in the mix helps.

Good work, Sir! If you dont know em, I'd throw NeuralDSP virtual guitar amps in there too, those amongst my favourites along with the previously mentioned ones. Possibly my faves are the NeuralDSP ones tbh. There is also https://www.applied-acoustics.com/strum-gs-2/ if you dont know it. Great for getting ideas and chords etc together. In terms of real guitar, I just got an E-Bow yesterday :) Found one cheap as bstock, it sounds rather marvelous :)

Oh and this, this has that classic Yes Chris Squire sound. I love it! I use it on everything :) https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/guitar/scarbee-rickenbacker-bass/

I love this! Has a melancholy, Nordic Giants vibe, but with some playful elements too.

Funnily enough, the software has a built-in selection of amps, which I played around with last night. Already sounding much better.
