What does it mean to be non-binary? How do you use correct pronouns? And what does it really take to explore your own gender identity? 🏳️‍🌈

Jamie Bloch was introduced to the idea in 2016, when she read the script for #FactsOnly -- an episode of Degrassi: Next Class where Yael Baron comes out as gender fluid.

Jamie Bloch sits down with The Degrassi Kid Podcast to talk about her role as Yael Baron, Degrassi's first (and only) non-binary character.

While Degrassi pioneered the conversation around sexuality and gender identity in high school, I was curious to ask Jamie how she reflects on playing a non-binary character as a cisgender-actress? 🎭

Does she regret taking the role? Did she learn a lot from the experience? And what would she do now if she was asked to play another queer or non-binary character on TV? 🤔

Let's sit down with Jamie Bloch to talk diversity on Degrassi, the lengthy audition process and what it was like to work with The Hollingsworth Brothers (Miles & Hunter) outside of Degrassi? 🎬

👇 What did you take away from Jamie's interview on The Degrassi Kid Podcast? 👇

Wow I had no idea Yael is Jamie’s real Hebrew name! That is so cool! Jamie was so sweet!! Loved this episode so much!

Sweet interview - it’s great that she got to learn about non-binary from her role! Lola was a true friend to Yael, and it was a great role for Amanda Arcuri. Good point about there being an opportunity to explore her Jewish culture - yet another thing we missed by not having more seasons!😕

I loved this episode, Jocelyn! What a sweet, thoughtful interview. I just texted my non-binary teen Kye to tell them how good this was. They’re away visiting grandparents this week, but Yael and Adam are both really important characters to us. Honestly, I can’t wait to put this on again the next time we’re in the car so we can listen together. Also, Patreon people, Riley, Glenn, everybody- you all had amazing questions!
