Hey everyone,

Thanks so much for the positive feedback on the InDesign screen - I was really excited to share that with you guys and your feedback means a lot! A quick monthly wrap-up:

NEW TEXTURES

I devoted most of my "texture-time" to creating a handful of new collage images. The original ones were a big hit, and and think these will be a nice addition.

I created 6, but I think I'm only going to post 5 to the public site. As this comic-book style collage came together, it felt like it might be a little iffy in terms of copyright.

It's a great image for personal work though! Here's a direct download:

ONE MORE NOTE

Sounds like the Illustrator Hair Brushes from yesterday's update may be downloading as a PDF instead of AI.

Lots more on the way in September... As always, a huge thank you for the support!

Cheers,

Brady, is that "keyable clouds" effect created by zooming into the same cloud image (set to repeat / copy) with transparency adjustment as you move inward? It's very cool.

I love your textures. They are amazing! Do you have a tutorial on creating them? Really interested to know if they are purely photos or if scans, a mix or something else. Thanks for all your content.

Texturelabs

Hey Michael, don't know how I missed this one! Yes, exactly... I set up a little expression for things to fade in and out as they get closer to camera... Got a few more cloud shots this month, I'll post that project along with em!

Texturelabs

Thanks Kirsty! Cool, I've definitely thought about doing a tutorial on creating them, but once I get in texture-making zone, I always put that idea on the back burner... will try to make it happen. Of the elements on the site, it's almost all photography. The only digital elements are a few of the atmospheric things like embers and lightning. I bring my camera with me almost everywhere - so maybe half the textures are found (rusty traincars) and the other half are created by hand (splattering ink on the page, etc). I went through quite a few lenses to find this Voigtlander macro lens I shoot on... It's tricky to shoot with, but gets a certain natural quality that seems to be missing with scans, so pretty much shoot everything in camera! Some things get pretty heavily treated in Lightroom (heavy grunges) and some just get minor correction before posting. Thanks for the post, will try to shoot some of the process!
