How do you practice like a songwriter? This is a question you guys have been asking me on Discord. Also, what's the deal with musical modes? So I decided to answer both questions in one video using the SHRED METHOD

The idea is to strategically engineer the perfect practice session for composers. Something that covers all the practical bases like scales, chords and counterpoint while also creating song ideas. I'm very passionate about the modes of the major scale. They each have a unique personality to fit any mood you may be experiencing

I'd love your feedback on this approach to teaching. I tried something new in this video with a live format feel. Let me know what you think and hit me up with any questions. The more ideas you give me, the better I can make the content to reach your goals faster muhahaha!

Practice Like a Songwriter | TRUTH about Guitar Modes

In this video, you'll learn how to Practice Like a Songwriter. Strategically engineer maximum musical benefit with my Shred method. Stop wasting time with meaningless exercises and construct a regime that actually makes MUSIC. I'll use the Modes Of The Major Scale to scale to demonstrate. Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian and Locrian. This is gonna blow your mind. It's possible to learn practical things like scales and chords while simultaneously writing music. Here's how. First, begin all practice sessions by connecting with the music of the spheres or drone. A drone is a sustained pitch. Next, learn a scale along to the drone. This trains your ears to decipher the emotional data within each note. Without a tonal reference point, you're just regurgitating shapes that bear no emotional significance to you. You MUST connect with this primal, ancient power! Next, we'll learn the chord progression for each mode. This provides you with harmonic information to create songs. Each mode has a chord progression that paints a unique sonic picture. The mood, or vibe of each scale is unmistakable. Once you digest these sounds you'll hear them in songs constantly. Finally, we'll put everything together with the C WORD counterpoint. Counterpoint combines scales and chords to create a complete musical phrase. Counterpoint is really when you play two or more melodies at the same time. Done skillfully, a rich tapestry of musical composition is the result. This is the brilliance of the shred method. Music theory + technique = MUSIC I got kicked out of my first band and could never figure out how to play guitar like the gods. My next door neighbor was so fed up with my guitar playing, she gave me a book on how to play for beginners. I'd been playing for 4 years already! I finally went to music school to get my act together. That's where I learned to practice and develop my musicianship. My life changed forever and suddenly I could solo over chords and rip killer licks while jamming with others. Becoming a better guitarist and musician doesn't happen by accident though.
