Here's a Neoclassical Fugue Subject I'm messing around with. It may be one of the main themes in the new album I've been writing. It's in the D harmonic minor scale with a number of chromatic substitutions to add extra flavor. Basically, the idea was to try and write a riff that's also a melody....like Iron Man from Black Sabbath. 

I've tuned the Les Paul Classic I'm using down 1 whole step to D standard. This is Michael Romeo's tuning of choice, giving the guitar a heavier sound. 

Try using pedal tones to connect chords that are in different keys for a smoother sound.
