We all know John Petrucci loves the lydian sound, so I've composed a short etude highlighting the essential components of the mode. Namely the #4 scale degree. A lydian is spelled, A-B-C#-D#-E-F#-G#. Super important to understand the harmony that makes lydian sounds as well. Play an A and B major chord with the A note always in the bass. This is how film composers think about modes. Guitarists typically have no clue how to make something sound modal. Gallop picking, alternate picking a la John Petrucci, and chord inversions will be targeted as well.
