It's S&F Extra time! Here's a behind-the-scenes look at what I worked on last month.

In the gallery above, you'll find the final version of each piece, as well as some animated GIFs of how some of them came together.  And down here, I'll provide some info about each one!

Platformer Characters
I love this project! You'll find larger versions of all nine new pieces at the end of the gallery above. I've talked about who these latest batch of characters all are already, but here are a couple of pieces of extra trivia for y'all:

-Jump Bug is, thus far, the only character I've drawn for this series whose game I've never played. I only learned about this game recently, reading about the history of platformers. (The game is notable for being the first ever "side scrolling" platformer.)

-Luigi's cloud costume is from Mario Galaxy 2, but his pose is taken from an old McDonalds toy that I had as a kid. I've included a photo in the gallery!

Bowser
Speaking of platformer characters, here's an unrelated Bowser! I drew this commission with Copic markers at a recent convention appearance.

L'il Poppy
This is just a silly little drawing I drew of my dog as an anthropomorphic cartoon character. Poppy is a sweet girl, and only two years old, so I drew her as a little kid. D'aw!

Comic process
This particular comic page is notable for being one of the only Bats On, Bats Off pages that was drawn entirely digitally! The hyper horizontal layout required some very short panels, and I felt like it would be easier to get everything into exactly the right layout required if I drew the pencils on the computer. (Where it is much easier to move elements around.) You'll find a full GIF of the production process in the gallery above!

Cat vs. Gator
This piece was a recent commission! I had to learn what the underside of an alligator looks like. You'll find a GIF of the pencils, inks, and final marker colors in the gallery above.

Gert Dance
This piece isn't that scandalous, but I included a covered-up version first just so it didn't catch anyone off guard.

This dancing sequence was drawn a few months ago, as a part of our current Saucy Hippo story... but I thought I would include it here because it had a complicated production process that I haven't shown off before. (And because I'm still very happy with how it turned out!)

You can find the full making-of process GIF in the gallery above, including all three rounds of pencils.

These poses were quite tricky to get right! I wanted to make sure I used a trio of poses that could actually follow one another in a performance... but I also needed to pick ones that could fit into this layout without too much overlapping.  Anyhow, this is the end result... a relatively accurate depiction of actual pole moves that also fit on the page right. Thanks, YouTube!

'til next time, team!
