Along with pokemon, there is something else that walks the earth- mysterious non-sapient creatures referred to simply as animals. Non-speaking and without special abilities of their own, they inhabit most biomes and often serve as a source of food for pokemon who prefer meat to berries (especially considering the fact that it's taboo to eat other pokemon). Animals vary depending on where you look, but common ones include fish, birds, rodents, and even a rare deer! Most pokemon like to hunt animals out in the wild, but some prefer to raise them on farms to sell at markets. Some pokemon are squeamish about eating creatures that look so similarly to them however, and can still get all their nutrients with a varied diet of berries.
