Hi Dave. I was interested to hear your take on the AI Open Letter. For me it brought to mind the writing and work of Neil Postman, and I wonder if you’ve read him. He has a wonderful little talk (from 1998!!) that I’ll link below, but here are a couple excerpts: “…for every advantage a new technology offers, there is always a corresponding disadvantage. The disadvantage may exceed in importance the advantage, or the advantage may well be worth the cost. Now, this may seem to be a rather obvious idea, but you would be surprised at how many people believe that new technologies are unmixed blessings.” And this: “… the best way I can express this idea is to say that the question, ‘What will a new technology do?’ is no more important than the question, ‘What will a new technology undo?’ Indeed, the latter question is more important, precisely because it is asked so infrequently.” Anyway, here’s a link to his prescient, witty yet sobering speech FIVE THINGS WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE, I think you’ll enjoy it: https://web.cs.ucdavis.edu/~rogaway/classes/188/materials/postman.pdf

P. S. to my above comment: I still detest Musk, just to be clear.
