"I feel like he's not a virgin". Well, that's one way to put it! When David says he wants to keep Ellie alive, James insists they should just kill her instead. James and the other guys look *very* uncomfortable when David takes Ellie prisoner. I interpret this as them knowing that David is a massive creep, but being reluctant to actually do anything about it. Overthrowing David would mean disrupting the whole community and destroying whatever faith and stability they had. After all, he isn't just their leader, but their "father". David reminded me a lot of the real-life Warren Jeffs, who was leader of the FLDS Church. He used his position of authority to manipulate his followers and "marry" many young girls. Anyone who disagreed with him was basically kicked out of the community and banned from seeing their families. Unfortunately this abuse went on for decades until Warren was finally arrested. Even though he is now in prison, many of his followers remain loyal to him and believe he is being persecuted for his faith rather than for being, well, a massive creep. I think this "evil preacher" trend is a reaction to these sorts of scandals finally coming to light after years of being covered up - especially since Christianity is by far the biggest religion in the USA, so most Americans would probably be familiar with Bible quotes, going to church, etc. Anyway, this was a very chilling episode with great performances. Ellie's screams during the fire were haunting! Fun fact, but the actor who plays James is Troy Baker, a fantastic voice actor who plays Joel in the games.

I'm trying to think of a movie or TV show where the religious Bible-quoting character is the good guy, but you're right, I can't come up with one. I'll post again if I can remember any. Edit: I just looked up at your next post and realized - Shepherd Book in Firefly/Serenity!

Father Gabriel in the walking dead and Barbara in Abbott elementary are the only ones I can think of
