If you follow social media and have a feed full about Ukraine, you may be reading or hearing about how Ukrainian troops entered Novoprokopivka. We've seen the video of up to two squads, maybe a platoon in the settlement. They were ambushed and rendered combat destroyed.

We will not be sharing the video.

Don't try and read between the lines. Ukrainian forces are advancing east of Novoprokopivka. Russian commanders have brought in a lot of armor, which the analyst team universally believes is not coming from a position strength. Ukraine has excellent artillery support with brutal accuracy and Russian armor has a narrow strip where it can maneuver between the Ukrainian lines and their own antitank defenses. A Russian T-72 tank is going to get stuck in an antitank ditch just like a Ukrainian T-72 tank. A Russian tank can't magically drive through its own fields or crash through its own dragon teeth at 35 kph (well maybe because the dragon teeth are showing to be pretty useless).

The take away? Reports of Ukrainian forces in Novoprokopivka and fighting for control of the settlement is ongoing is overstated.

I’m also confused by it. I thought that it implied that the event had happened but (a) Ukraine is not fighting in the settlement (yet?); and (b) Russia is in a weak position in the area despite its show of strength, as Russian armour can be targeted by Ukrainian artillery and squeezed between Ukrainian troops snd Russia’s own defence lines, anti-tank ditches, etc. That’s just my guess of the meaning, though. It would be good to have a plain-language assessment. Thanks in advance.

To clarify - some people are taking this and running with "Ukraine has control of parts of Novoprokopivka - that is inaccurate
