Hey all, I'm back and can't wait to get back to the show. I recorded this first episode of an informal audio show just as a bonus for supporters here. Thanks for all your help and support keeping the show going! In this 'show' I talk a little about my trip and mostly about my experience using a SIM card from JTGlobal.com. Hope its helpful or at least interesting. Cheers, Tom

When I got off the plane in London, the first thing I did was go to a "Carphone Warehouse" that I had looked up and buy a prepaid SIM card with plenty of data. Popped it into our Nexus phones and it worked great. Having a phone with data is soooo handy while traveling overseas. Understanding the London bus system feels like a super power, 10 years ago when I traveled in London it was only by the Underground. You want to stay away from SIM cards for tourists, they are taking advantage of tourists being more willing to part with their cash. OTOH prepaid SIM card users are careful with their money.

...and I've bought a SIM card in Italy before, it wasn't a process (though this was a few years ago). You probably could've done the same thing, look for SIM card sellers around whatever your first destination was. 1 gig for 100 bucks is ridiculous lol. And the SIM store will have a paper clip and will setup your phone for you. And you don't need a power adapter for power voltages, I've never seen an small AC/DC that isn't compatible with 110 - 230 or whatever.

I get what you're saying but it was worth it for me not to have to stop anywhere. Just pop my SIM card in and go. You are correct you don't need adapters for the different voltages. I didn't explain myself well. Some outlets only except the smaller pin configuration. Two of my adapters would not fit in these outlets. The one I got free fit in either.
