I have soo many thoughts on how they did Medusa and in the end I do like it. I think they are walking a line of awareness that they have a young audience while also trying to approach a conversation about Medusa. I like that she refers to herself as a survivor and I also think it’s interesting that they only slay Medusa later when she attempts to have the kids turn on each other. And after it’s revealed that she doesn’t just kill monsters like her garden suggests but she instead also hurts innocent people. Also think the invisibility hat thing was to keep the rating in mind 🤣 they couldn’t keep it PG while showing a severed head

I fully respect the fact they chose to draw attention to Medusa not just being an irredeemable monster in the myth, but it's one of those things where the accuracy to the inspiration material, the legends, was kinda...an awkward one to manage. They couldn't fully change that aspect of the story due to the fate of Medusa's head and how important that part of the story is for certain characters' futures, but because of that it's now "this is a victim of abuse but she still is trying to kill 3 12 year olds (edit I remembered Grover is actually 24) so like...how bad are we meant to feel for her as the audience?" This was one of those things where it was impossible to stray from the book far enough to actually make this a decent if understated (for, again, clear reasons, kids show) exploration of the treatment of this woman, but there was an attempt. I kinda wish if they went with it like this, *maybe* they could have made Medusa's initial attack some form of perceived self defense, like if she had reason to think that the trio were trying from the get go to hurt her, because that way it would be less "evil but with a sad backstory" and a bit more tragic, however I am not a writer and I do not claim to know what would ultimately have worked better, because my perspective is entirely isolated to me and there's so many things that go into making a TV show
