Making other people's OC's is very hard indeed...  and one of the reasons I like the freedom of having my own.  I was quite happy with how Sara Philips turned out but it's even more challenging to take on depicting a well-known or even legendary character.  This is why I normally stay away from it.

However I had a secret plan (which is not secret now) to do a picture of Sara Philips, Amanda Jones, and Nancy Drew all together - a kind of girl detective 'super group' if you like.  This to be followed up by a sequence of bondage and KO pics featuring combinations of the girls...

I had been meaning to make Nancy for years, and actually have a couple of previous aborted attempts somewhere saved.  Then it occurred to me that I kind of made her by accident at the end of last year when depicting the girl from the CYOA cover.

The issue with doing Nancy is that she's been attempted by many 3D artists and never in a way that satisfies me.  The first challenge is being true to the character and especially resisting temptation to put her in inappropriate clothing.  She is from a privileged background and society and needs to look classy.  The second is being true to previous depictions of her whether on book covers or in the 1980's TV series.  Or indeed the later TV attempt or the Emma Roberts* film.  With respect to my colleagues I haven't seen anyone do that yet.

I own and have read a good 40 Nancy Drew books mostly dating back to the (revised) Grosset and Dunlap ones, but with a smattering of the later ones.  If I were to do Nancy true to the 1950's she would wear dresses and have 'Titian' hair, which is more red than anything else.  Now this would (surely) look nice but my issue is that she would look out of place next to other girls wearing more 'modern' clothing and once you embark on doing a 'period' look you have to be consistent in everything you do from then on.  I have taken my look more from the 80's where she might wear sweaters and jeans.  And during this period she is picture mainly with blonde hair on the book covers.

What I have tried to do with this depiction is capture Nancy's attributes in that she is smart, inquisitive, brave, while being utterly pure and innocent.  So many of the things that we would inflict on her would come as a bit of a shock to her.  However, it's important to remember that Nancy is not just a dumb victim - she always wins in the end - and her character shield is what enables her to be delightfully negligent of her personal safety.

Now all I have done above is to post a kind of where-I-am after a few hours last night of making changes and tweaks to Nancy.  I hope to spend more time this weekend trying to put together some outfits in the 80s style that wouldn't look out of place with some of my other cast members, old and new.  This tomato coloured TNS is a stop gap more than anything (it would clash with Sara's red hoodie) - however I just think that blondes look fantastic in red...

I recognise that Nancy *should* be accompanied by Bess and George (and Ned really) however there ARE plenty of stories where she goes somewhere either on her own or meets different accomplices.  I think the idea of Nancy, Amanda and Sara meeting up and working together is rich with potential - for bad things to happen :-)

*footnote....  does anyone else adore Emma Roberts like I do? She's just wonderful.

I think it's a great idea to have Nancy Drew, Amanda, and Sara together working on a case. Would love to imagine all the adventures (and misadventures) they can experience while trying to solve a difficult case. Look forward to this!

Clearly the solution to the 1950s dilemma would be to make 50s versions of Amanda and Sara. ;)
