Well... the silver lining from this week is that most of this is stuff I shouldn't have to do a second time. I'm way better connected to the fledgling NSFW game industry, that has to be good for all future game development, but I've spent so much time on emails... -_-

Headline of the moment: Ouroboros is on its possibly final version. I've done my last testing and I'm going to submit it soon, but I'm paranoid - if there are long time patrons out there who have the time/inclination to test the game right now, regardless of your pledge level, message me and I'll send you the game. $10 backers, it's been updated in the old thread.

TLS progress this week was okay, I really need to receive the finished parallax map to finish things up. As I said in a comment last week, I hope it will be done before the end of the month - if not, I shall be quite frustrated.

That's all for now, lots to do...

Guess I'll play through Ouroboros again, see if anything broke compared to last time. Just to be sure, what name/number is the version you want tested?

sierralee

The version currently in testing is "Ouroboros 2.0 beta v6" - thanks! Hopefully it will just be the game with some refinements and additions, but I appreciate anyone who helps with the last second checking!

In the next TLS version, will there be any scenes with Robin yet? Or is that too much of a spoiler?

sierralee

The party is under too much scrutiny by the elves to have a lot of sex this update. Robin and Simon have a private moment to talk, however. Their relationship, like much of TLS, will be a slow burn.

Secular Reason

Go ahead and shoot me a link Sierra. I can do one last run through after work.

sierralee

Use whichever link is posted in this thread, since it's possible it will change before then: https://www.patreon.com/posts/ouroboros-2-0-6891387

Can't Wait

As much as both love beta testing/breaking games and love Ouroboros today is simply too busy. I shouldn't even be typing here right now. If tomorrow is an option, then I'd absolutely love to dedicate a solid chunk of hours to it, but you know. Sad panda.

I love both the games! Keep it up =D however, I'm more hyped for TLS than any other games ;p I also like to hear how you're doing as well. hopefully you're in good health too.

sierralee

I'm not sure how much ability I'll have to update on Nutaku, but further testing could still be useful for later versions uploaded later. And you've been a supporter for a long time, I think you deserve a copy of the game. ^-^

sierralee

I'm happy to have created Ouroboros, but I'm eager to get back to TLS full time too! I'm doing... complexly. Not badly, but I don't want to make any simple positive statements. My health is one thing I rarely have any cause to complain about.

sierralee

Thanks to all who helped with last second testing! I have sent the game for Nutaku to review, so while bug reports are always welcomed, there's no need for more volunteers. Now I just need to try to stay productive while waiting for important emails. >.> As a reminder, all $10 backers will get a copy of the final game. $1 or $5 backers, if you've been with me a long time, I'd be happy to send you a copy as well - just send me a message if you want a link.

I'm a decently long timed 5$ backer, but I'm more than happy to support you on Nutaku, too!

sierralee

Thanks, I appreciate that too! While Patreon is my career, releasing a commercial game is another kind of public debut, so my reputation is sort of on the line, haha.

I'd be happy to test Ouroboros also really looking forward to TLS been a 5$ backer for a little over a year.

Email is the bane of productivity, sex and human existence. My heart goes out to you. Also I'll try to run through it again, should be able to some time this week. Have a beer and try to wash the taste of email out of your mouth! :0 Also, gratz on $2800! Lastly, what IS the latest version of Ouroboros, just so I know I'm testing the right one? >.>

*POTENTIAL SPOILERS* Pulled a full run through in just a couple marathon sessions today and found no big problems. There were some nitpicking details that I did notice. When using the bomb you bought in the fairy village on the primary rubble pile there is still the dialog about not being able to blow up both piles. In the Infinite Bliss gallery save you can walk through the bottom right miscellaneous scenes marker while all the others are solid.

sierralee

The last second testing is done, but feel free to enjoy the game and report anything you find. The latest version is v6.

sierralee

Thanks for the feedback! Glad to have another confirmation things are mostly smooth.

At the beginning of a cycle when you are going north, and then east to the castle, you can get to Emantha's place before going to the castle by jumping over the invisible barrier.

Ran across a minor issue: If you interact with the altar of rebirth after completing all of the single-character cycles but haven't reawakened anyone during the current cycle, you still get a conversation involving all of the awakened characters. Also, not sure if this is intentional or not, but when you read the sign behind the counter at the inn with unawakened Atreyan, awakened Atreyan's face is displayed in the text box.

Okay so I just downloaded and beat Orobouros in one sitting, it was fucking amazing. I havent played it before so I dont know whats new, but in my six hour experience I didnt notice one thing that I could consider a bug, so yeah!

I finally got around to play and finish Ouroboros the other day, and I must say that the story is awesome! I'm seeing some parallels with Albert Camus' "The Myth of Sisyphus." Especially, about the curse to repeat life's toils over and over again. Is the story based on this essay?

Hi Sierra! Would it be possible to get a Mac download link for Ouroboros? (I looked around a bit and didn't see one, but I totally could have missed it!) Thank you! Loving all of your work!

sierralee

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! The origin of this game is nothing so high-minded as that, I'm afraid. Believe it or not, it started with thinking about the Legend of Zelda franchise. The idea of the same thing happening over and over again struck me as tragic in a way different than was intended. No quest, no matter how ostensibly important, can survive endless repetition. From there I got to thinking about what it would do to a person to live through such repetitions, and everything spiraled out from there. Ouroboros got pretty far from the origin of the concept, by the end, since I discarded a variety of elements that were part of the original idea. I found what I felt was the real heart of the story and then pruned away elements that didn't contribute to it. But yup, the origin of the idea was Nintendo, not Camus. XD

I actually found that it reminded me of Plato's "The Cave" and The hero and his ladies eventually being the only ones to see the shadows for what they are. It was a great game that I really loved to play and the lack of need to worry about levels and grinding mean that the story had to operate purely on plot progression and character/environmental interaction, which it did superbly.
