(AN: This is a new project I have. I wanted to write a Female mc. Give me your opinion on the first two chapters. As always my story ideas are only available to Legend and up Patreon. Story is called Help! The dragon Lord want to marry me. Sorry if there are too many mistakes. They are still just drafts.)
Standing on a devastated battlefield filled with craters, a pink-haired woman wearing worn clothes and a torn armor was sitting down with tears streaming down her face and her back against a crumbling wall.
“Why…”
Muttering those words under her breath as blood trailed down her lips she stood up and took a few unsteady steps while holding her stomach with one hand and a sword in another.
Each step she took left a bloody trail on the ground. Her mind was heavy. Her breath was raging. She was tired all she wanted was to lie down and sleep. But she couldn’t. She knew she couldn’t.
Standing up and walking everything she had. The wound she received should have been fatal. The only reason she was still alive was thanks to the last dreg of power that was still in her and something else.
Right now, what she should do was to rest. Find a place to heal. But, she refused to do so. Even though it hurt so much. Even though every part of her body seemed to be broken. She still continued to advance.
The reason?
She wanted to know why.
“Why did you try to help me?”
In the end, her steps took her in front of what looked like a small hill. But another careful look would reveal what it really was.
Black scales glistened under the light of the setting sun. A huge frame that dwarfed everything around it. Long threatening claws covered in blood.
It was a dragon.
Mighty creatures whose natural power and concepts made them calamities to the land.
Wise creatures as old as the world that even the gods feared and the one that was breathing its last in front of her was none other than the mightiest and wisest of them all.
Ragnar, The Dragon Lord.
When she finally reached the dying dragon, all she could do was breathe deeply while trying to control her wounds.
“Tell me why…”
Muttering those words filled with bitterness and helplessness, she once again asked.
At first, she received no answer. But soon, the head of the dragon slightly moved as one of it struggled to open.
[So you are still alive.]
She did not answer but in fact chock on sobs. Even though she knew only a few things about him, she did know that he hated speaking directly in the mind of the other.
Plopping down on the ground after all strength left her, she placed her hands on his body.
<<Concept: Heal>>
A pink light formed around her hand and covered the body of the dragon in front of her but no matter what she did, she could feel his life force still slipping.
[It’s sad. That your first act of kindness toward me is such an useless one.]
The deep and sarcastic voice sounded once again in her head but she ignored it.
‘Heal! Please just heal!’
[It’s useless.]
It was.
No matter what she did, her meager reserve of energy wasn’t even enough to heal herself. How then could she save someone else?
“Why did you sacrifice your heart for me!!”
Those last words were shouted hysterically.
Indeed.
She should have died.
Not even her power could save her from the wounds she received.
But—She was still alive.
Even now as she spoke, she could feel her body slowly healing. As long as she got enough rest she would be back to her peak conditions.
All of this was thanks to one thing.
The heart that was beating hard in her chest right now.
The hot blood that was filling her veins even as she spoke now.
[Poor little me. Even to the end, you still seem to hate me.]
Those words felt like a punch in her guts.
“I…I have betrayed you.”
[I know.]
“I have always hated you. I loathed you, feared you, and wished to do nothing with you. You represented my worst fear and I was engaged to you against my will.”
[....]
“So why…Please just tell me why!”
She felt like she was becoming crazy. Everything was simply too much for her.
Why should the one that she hated the most and that has hated her as much sacrifice his life for her?
And why? Why did her heart hurt so much?
She should have been happy at this sight.
This was what she had always dreamed of.
She was now free. Free of a marriage she had never wanted. Free from a husband she had never loved. She even obtained the ultimate catalyst—The heart of a dragon. A treasure that sparked the greed of entire kingdoms.
[I guess…You will never get the answer to this question.]
This time, there was no sarcasm. No mockery nor disdain. Only kindness. Gentle words made in jest to soothe her heart.
[I am glad…That you are alright…]
“Ragnar?”
She waited but no answer came to her.
“Ragnar!?”
She shouted but still no answer.
It was that she realized.
He was dead.
“Hah…”
She would never see him again.
She laughed. Her eyes seemed empty and tears still streaming down her face.
“Hahahah!”
She laughed. Even though only emptiness filled her heart. Even though no joy could be seen on her face.
She laughed again and again. She laughed until her throat was sore. She laughed until it physically hurt her to do so. But even then, she did not stop laughing.
After all, she should be happy, right?
She did well, right?
She fought for the world. Slew the Dragon Lord with the help of the Hero and freed the world from the tyranny of Ragnar.
*Crunch*
The sound of steps came from behind her but she did not turn around.
“So that bastard finally died. Hahaha. What a dragon lord.”
“Tornak.”
“Oh? Saintess Viviane[1]. Still alive I see. I guess the plan was a success.”
From behind her frizzled pink hair, Viviane looked up at the man that just intruded.
“As I thought…It was really a setup.”
“Of course it was. I am sure you must be still frazzled about what Lord Siegfried did but do not worry saintess. Thanks to your help, we managed to take down the dragon lord. Humanity won.”
“....And what if he didn’t give me his heart? What would have Siegfried done?”
Tornak fell silent for an instant before answering, “But this didn’t happen did it?”
He chuckled before crouching down, “Now then, dear saintess…Take it out.”
“You do know what will happens to me if I do so, right?”
“Do not worry. During the marriage of Hero Siegfried and dame Brunhild. The populace will weep the death of the courageous and Vaillant Saintess who did not hesitate to sacrifice her life for the greater good.”
“So this was your real target all along. Things such as protecting the world were nothing but lies.”
Tornak laughed, “Well, since you are about to die. Let me confess to you.”
Tornak kneeled in front of Viviane and muttered, “You were really one stupid and naive bitch and there is nothing you can do to change this.”
Standing up, he ignored her and signaled his men to come and restrain her. He held no fear since at the end of the day, even with the heart of a dragon, Viviane's concept was Healing. Nothing more.
This was the greatest mistake he committed.
“You are right. I was really dumb and stupid.”
She let her fear control her and cloud her eyes to the reality of the world. Her upbringing in the confine of the temple made her naive to the ugliness in the human heart.
How could she only realize it now?
Ragnar had never treated her badly.
No matter how much she complained. No matter how much she rejected him.
He would always only give a bitter smile and walk away, leaving her alone.
Even then, she had never found her wanting.
‘How stupid.’
If only she had realized this sooner. Would things have changed? Would this terrible bad end be avoided?
As she thought about this, her heart began to beat faster. Her pupils dilated while her beautiful pink hair changed to a complete silver color.
“What are you doing!?”
Tornak took a step back unconsciously. He could not help but shiver in fear under the pressure she was suddenly emanating.
‘This power. It should be impossible!’
This was the power of the Dragon lord. Even though she had his heart it should have been impossible for her to use it.
Her body shouldn’t be able to handle it.
“You are going to die! Stop it!”
Viviane laughed, but this time out of pure joy.
It was said that the blood of a dragon could grand an immortal body.
The bones could create the sharpest weapons and their scales—The strongest shields and armors.
But then—What about their hearts?
Viviane now had the answer,
“Once again, you were right about me being naive and stupid. But, you were wrong about something else.”
She grinned. Even though her body looked like it was about to come apart, she did not care.
Since she was going to die either way. Why not gamble one last time?
<<Concept: Heal>>
‘Not enough’
<<Concept: Heal>>
‘Still not enough!’
<<Concept:------->>
The world suddenly came to a stop as a large ticking clock filled the sky with its majestic light.
<<Pure concept: Time>>
