First time seeing this one with you, exciting!

What I loved about this movie is that Peele doesn't touch on the most blatant shade of racism, but a different shade that's less touched on. That shade being the social issue of envy and fetishization that black people( myself included) have dealt with for generations. An example in this movie would be the grandad representing Black men being envied for their speed/athletic ability. Another example would be that weird scene with the lady that was touching on Chris, asking "Is it better?" This was a representation of the sexual fetishization of black men, which has been a thing since the days of slavery. Also idk if you noticed but Georgina was captured because Rose's grandma wanted her hair, which is one of the many traits that black women are envied for (other traits being their complexion, lips, curves, etc) Anyways, dope reaction as always! ❤️

"Get Out" is a great psychological thriller and social commentary about race relations in the U.S. Is society in general more accepting of Black people when they act and speak exactly like White America? Do Black people want to put their life experiences and history behind them to fit in? If you liked the comedic relief from Lil Rey Howery who plays Rod, you might enjoy the Hulu comedy, "Vacation Friends" (2021).

I've seen this movie multiple times and I never put the grandpa being a runner and Walter running towards Chris connection together until watching this reaction.

Jordan Peele did win an Academy Award for best original screenplay.

One of my absolute favourite films. Of course Rose can’t eat her froot loops with the milk - all the colours would mix! What makes it so good and and so rewatchable is the attention to details, every line of dialogue, all the items in the house, are about race and/or pointing to the truth. On the first watch you really feel Rose’s love for Chris but when you watch it again everything she does and says is gaslighting and manipulation. She called the cop, then provoked him, her reason for not telling her parents her boyfriend is black is absurd but she’s pushing to make him defensive and embarrassed. One detail I love is Rose’s stuffed toy lion which makes Chris uncomfortable. It’s this cute toy but it’s also a male African animal that she’s collected at some point and put on his side of the bed, this infantilised fantasy object, to mess with him. When you see what she’s doing it is incredibly creepy but there is no right way to bring that up in a relationship without seeming like you’re the crazy one. There are tons more things like that and they all contribute to the unsettling atmosphere. It’s very similar to the Shining in that regard.

Happy birthday V! So glad you checked out this movie, it's one of the best suspense movies in my mind. Not to mention all the symbolism and social commentary. I hope Jordan Peele surpasses it one day, but its a high bar he set for himself!

Hypnosis is just the illusion of the power of suggestion. Hypnosis is as real as you make it. It is the practice of giving control to yourself, subconsciously. A hypnotizer isn't the one that does the hypnotizing, they are just a guide through hypnosis. What really happens is that you're using someone else's voice as an assistant to your own inner voice in the hopes of either going deeper into your own mind or controlling your own behavioral thoughts, like trying to quit smoking or maybe control eating disorders. The difference between real hypnosis and this film is that no one can be controlled through hypnosis unless they desire to be or have an unshakable belief in the power of hypnosis. In every case, not one single person can be hypnotized to do something they truly don't want to do. You still have control over your mind and actions if you want to have control over them. In a lot of cases, most hypnotized people are really just going with flow and giving the thought of control to someone else. The most common cases of the strongest hypnotized people actually come from the practices of voodoo. A voodoo priestess will have "zombie" servants. This process involves psychologically torturing someone with the idea of voodoo curses and illusions to the point of tricking someone into dying, usually through the belief in voodoo but also sneaking drugs into their system so reality is confusing to them. Then the voodoo priestess will bury this individual, who will most likely be chemically paralyzed, believing they are dead and witnessing their own burial. After a small amount of time, the voodoo priestess will dig them up, do some more voodoo rituals over the body, which is still alive with the paralysis wearing off, believing they are now a "zombie". With therapy and/or sheer willpower, they can come out of the trance, though.

It's very typical for an officer to ask for everyone's ID even if the person in the vehicle wasn't driving. It's mainly so the officer knows the history of every one in the car in case the person has a history of being violent or may have warrants. Depending on the state the officer can give a citation to someone drunk in the car even if they aren't driving.
