The practical effects in this movie always a sight to behold. Easily one of my favorite horror movie.

I knew at the start she would be all mushy over the husky!

John Carpenter is forever a horror movie genius. A lot of his work still goes unrivaled even to this day.

Best nightmare before Christmas gift ever...

Chester Beals

Wow, top 3? What would the other 2 be? So we can recommend accordingly...

How about this for added horror... if you were one of these things, other than a rather vivid nightmare, would you actually know it before you strike?...

Danny Johnston

Oh hey, this is that movie with the thing that does the thing to the other thing making another the thing to do the thing!....the thing!

The 2011 The Thing is also very good and should be added to your watch list. It is a real shame that we moved away from practical effects. But not everyone is great at utilizing them, as proof of many films back in the day. But they can end up costing more than CGI. I love practical effects. Grew up on films that used them. Probably why films these days don't stick with you like some of older films do.

This is the movie that inspired the "who is the imposter" kind of series of movies and video games like, among us, Town of Salem , Deceit, to name a few. ITs crazy that in the beginning of the film we are upset that the they are shooting at the dog, but that is the monster imitating a dog and the Norwegians knew it and the guy shouted "get away from that thing!" in norwegian but since we didnt know what they were saying we didnt catch that and the guy got shot in the head. This is just the beginning of the film, perfectly executed with mystery.

There was "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (1956) and the scarier remake in (1978) but I think "The Thing" (1982) is by far the scariest of this specific type of horror. Any time you are trapped in a confined space, the paranoia spreads like COVID.

Great reaction, just wanted to add that the 2011 movie The Thing is the story of the other camp that found the ship and cut The Thing from the ice, guess we know how that movie ends, but I like Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
