Christopher Nolan hardly ever misses. (Lets forget about Tenet) Anywho Seeing your reaction to this only makes me excited for you to react to Oppenheimer when it comes out. Wow its in my opinion his best film. He loves messing with time in his movies to tell a compelling and thought provoking story.

Hi Vee! Coming back for another comment now that I finished. The final scene wasn't telling you that it was a dream. It focused on the top just long enough to see it wobble but cut before you see if it fell or not. The message (i think) is that Cobb can never be sure if he's living in a fantasy or reality, so he chooses to accept this - thats why he chose to go to his children and see their faces. He didn't want to miss the opportunity to spend time with and love his children worrying over what's real or not. That's why he didn't bother to watch the top fall, because in that moment it didn't matter. I think it's a really strong metaphor for life too. We can spend so much time striving for our perfect lives that we miss the opportunity to live our lives and experience it for what it is - to live your life, take the good with the bad and take the fact that you're experiencing it as a gift unto itself. people REALLY hated the ending (including me) but after watching it a few times, i really love it. If you also notice, the film's plot is like a mirror, where Cobb and Mal swap places. He finds himself telling Mal the things she was saying to him once she woke up from limbo - that their children are projections, that their real children are waiting for them up above. I just think there was so much beautiful about this movie and in the end it's a story about love, and the responsibility we have for our loved ones. Mal killed herself and abandoned her family without intending to harm anyone, cobb caused that thought to grow in her mind because she was tormenting herself but couldn't bring herself to kill herself to get out of limbo. On top of that, he notion about having to let her go is so beautiful as well, because it's true. No matter how much we love the people in our lives, all we have is the time we have together. It's such a poignant representation about how love is the most tragic and most beautiful thing in our lives

So if you wanted more of a confirmation, the opera song in this movie that they always use to signal the "kick" to wake up is 2 minutes and 28 seconds long. In our actual world. The movie as a whole is 2 hours and 28 mins long. With that knowledge, it is more clear if the ending is a dream or not. It these little hidden gems that Christopher Nolan puts in his film making that makes him one of the greatest.

I think the large majority actually like this film. I myself, saw this four times in theaters lol. Keep in mind that the top does wobble at the end. It was meant to be ambiguous. Although, Micheal Caine was told that any scene he was in was reality so, that's something to consider too. I could go on and on about the making of this but if you know Nolan, then you know he likes doing things practical as much as possible and in front of the camera. So, for the revolving hallway they did in fact have a large set that they could rotate like a centrifuge. Then, when it went zero-g, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was on wires and kept his muscles tight when moving around to give the impression he was floating. The Hospital Fortress was real and built & blown up for the movie along with the use of some miniatures. Even the avalanche was real with the use of controlled explosives. I too am hoping and waiting for the eventual Oppenheimer reaction. It is among Nolan's best if not his very best imo. You will probably be interested in the science but it is very much focused on the man himself and the choices he made.

Hi Miss V, when you said during your reaction that you didn't know kidnapping insurance was a real thing, it brought to mind an amazing movie if you haven't seen it. Man on Fire with Denzel Washington. Anyway, Excellent reaction as always :)

Nolan obv left it at the end up to debate between viewers. But it was reality at the end, it has been confirmed. First time I watched it, I was talking to friends about the ending, and we just came up with the idea. That Leo didn't care if it was a dream or reality anymore. He just wanted to be back with his children. Appreciate the reaction. Most seem to react to the usual shit from Nolan, such as Interstellar, as that gives another type of reaction with shit like 'Don't let me leave Murph' Gives a powerful reaction. But this is one of his best movies, my opinion anyway. Oppenheimer, The Prestige & Memento are top notch too

The best thing to me about this ending is that Cobb decides the top isn't worth it. He decides his kids are more important than caring about it. But if you really want concrete answers, anytime Cobb is in a dream, he has a wedding ring. Anytime he's in reality, he no longer has a ring on. In the ending scene, the ring isn't there, placing it in reality. Cutting away on the top still spinning though leaves it up to your own interpretation.

The ambiguous ending is one of the high points of the film. How many films really REALLY make you think? Think AND feel? This is a rare one. On an emotional level - to Cobb - it doesn't matter if it is real or not. He has let the memory of Mal go. He just wants to see his kids again. On an intellectual level - I think he is still dreaming, for this reason. All through the film, you see him remembering his kids, but not their faces. But when he finally arrives "home" and sees his kids again - they look the same as in his memories. Kids that young - are you saying that even in 6-months, a year, 2 years (However long he's been gone...) they haven't grown? They still look exactly the same as the memories? Not in reality. So... given when we have been shown in the movie, I think he is still dreaming.

Sooo if you love psychological movies and leonardo di caprio, I can recommend shutter island. Didn't find it on your patreon feed, so don't know if you watched it already.

But the top was wobbling like it was about to fall over ... maybe?? Hmm ...

CILLIAN MURPHY NOT SILLIAN MURPHY.

Erik Stevenson

I don't know if it would be overwhelmingly popular choice, but your reaction to this makes me think you would like Cloud Atlas (2012) from the Wachowski's.

Ill do you the biggest favor ever. There is an answer to whether the end was a dream or not. A few years ago, Michael Caine did an interview where he said he was completely confused by the script and what was real. Christopher Nolan told him that any scene that he was in, was real. Michael Caine is in the last scene and therefore we know the scene was real and not a dream. Nolan wanted it to make the audience question it, but through Michael Caine it was given away. You're Welcome lol.

Shutter Island is another good one with Leo
