2023-04-04 22:54:56 I had to pause for this: Off episode topic but on the topic of YOU, Vick... "Not a female"? say WHAT?? Your hair is lovely! and I sure don't care how well you know how to do makeup. You certainly don't need much with your natural beauty. ;* <3

Haven't watched yet, but I'm betting your expression there is because of Jayne, am I right?

Garrick Smalley

I do love when actors have to pretend not to know their lines.

Avery

Woa that's some gorgeous hair! 😊

Ariel is a fun plot filled and character growth episode. Love a good heist. Can't wait to see your reaction to the next one, War Stories.

I think if the series had gone on we would have seen Jayne turn on Mal in some way. I would have loved to see it.

The purpose of the blue rod is to literally scramble the brains of anyone affected by it. The Hands of Blue work for the Alliance to keep secrets...there's no telling what River can utter because of [REDACTED] that someone might repeat, and its that dangerous to the Alliance to have that information known. The Alliance has a lot of technological resources, they may have a way of extracting information from a freshly dead brain and formatting the poor organic's hard drive may prevent that.

Texas Anla'Shok

You know, with the Alliance just back-stabbing practically everyone they deal with, including their own, you have to wonder how long before the whole thing collapses.

In his own way Jayne was trying to protect Mal. He's a bad guy but he's not a bad guy. I don't think he would ever have turned on Mal.

Great reaction again! One of my fav thing is the confidence you have with what is going to happen with the episode. The more you learn about the crew the better you're getting but I also know it will be an exciting episode for you. This episode has one of my favorite scenes with Jane and Mal. Jane has a lot of tough choices this episode and the end he comes to terms with how he messed up and while accepting the consequences of his actions he also doesn't want to hurt the crew. Because, I want to believe that that crew *is* his crew and he doesn't want to them to think badly of him.

This episode is one of my favorites, as it introduces a lot of concepts that would have been expanded on in future seasons if the series had continued. The actors absolutely love each other in this show. The scene at the end where the crew comes together in the cargo bay and Mal grabs Kaylee and gives her a hug from behind was completely unscripted but it was what came naturally. If you watch it again you can see Jewel look over at Summer and grin as he does it and notice that Summer's smile back is decidedly "un-River-like" in it's clarity. They just kept going with the scene though because it was precisely what Mal would have done in that moment. As to the ending, I always got the feeling that Mal closed that hatch because Jayne demonstrated that he actually cared enough about the crew deep down that he cared what they thought of him. Watching the special features on the DVD Boxed set is worth it.

It's amazing how many reactors somehow completely miss that "hands of blue" is referring to the blue gloves that are prominently displayed both in this episode and in the first episode these guys showed up in. It also surprises me how often Jayne's betrayal is something that people "I knew it!" about, when he explicitly told Mal that it was just a matter of time (and enough money) in the very first episode.

The Jayne hate is undeserved. So jayneist.

panacamanana

And Jayne doesn’t suck.

panacamanana

Where’s the bebop movie? 😂

On my first watch when Jane told them they had to go early I took that as he regretting turning them in after he found out what was done to River. But then when they ran into the feds he just went to act like he was still selling them out. Perhaps I misread the situation but I felt like he had second thoughts before the feds decided to shaft him

Anthony Villena

I read somewhere that River was probably slashing at the Blue Sun logo on Jayne's shirt

2 things id like to say but first, loved the reaction, ok, firstly i sorta get Jayne because river could have killed him, she definitely wasn't holding back, also this was the only time Jayne betrayed the crew, hes an angry idiot but he isnt usually a traitor, he says a lot, but doesnt act on it lol. as for the ending, he did learn, Mal would have killed him if Jayne didnt say that he didnt want the others to know, it showed he cared what they thought about him. hes disgusting and annoying and angry, but i dont believe hes a bad person really, if River didnt stab him he wouldnt have betrayed them, but its because he didnt consider them to be part of the crew, which clearly changed at the end there. edit: im also realising this is probably a pointless comment as you've finished the series long before this haha but i enjoy this episode and wanted to way in
