HERE IT IS GUYS… Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope!!

I’ve never actually FULLY had the original Star Wars experience (everyone has seen bits and pieces from mentions, parodies, etc..) BUT HOLY… am I glad I did. I see the Star Wars series completely different now and I can’t wait for the next one!!!

It was a lot of info being thrown right in your face for like the first half and I felt like I didn’t know where all this information was taking me but it picked up and all came together so flawlessly I couldn’t have picked out one thing I disliked about episode IV!!

I hope you guys enjoy the reaction and film as much as I did!! 🤗

You mentioned Luke 's feelings for Obewan, vs his Aunt & Uncle, there's been more than one comedy skit about that.

Long response but I hope it's well articulated and helps you understand things a bit more for the next movie. I'm so glad you loved it! You are in for one wild ride. Expect to experience every emotion possible. Laughs, tears, anger, sadness, hope, confusion lol. The main advice I would give is to try and not rack your brain so much trying to figure everything out, the pieces will come together. It's very important to pay attention to dialogue in these movies as there are often many hints. Music is also a huge part of these movies and if you listen closely you can pick up little hints from the choice of music. That will make more sense later. This entire universe was dreamt up primarily by one man, George Lucas. Really incredible if you think about it. The first Star Wars movie is one of the greatest films ever made but here's the crazy thing...Episode 5: Empire Strikes Back is considered by many to be the greatest sequel in movie history. Not only did it live up to an impossible standard, it excelled, and it did so by bucking every trend and going completely against the grain. It's a much darker movie is all I'll say. Episode 6 is an epic finale as well. Then you get to see Episodes 1-3 and how everything led up to that first scene in A New Hope. About the Episode numbering...George actually had the entire saga (all six movies) written out in his head back in the 70's, or at least the main plot. He made a conscious decision to start from the middle and then go back to the beginning. Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) recalled having asked Lucas during production "Why are we doing episode four?" and being answered that Lucas wanted "to give the audience a feeling that they'd missed something and that they were coming into the middle of this story". He also knew he didn't have the technological capabilities to create what he had planned for Episodes 1-3. He later remarked something along the lines of "I could never have made the prequels without CGI". In fact, the only reason the original movie was simply named "Star Wars" for the first few theater runs is because he didn't want to confuse people. This changed when the movie went back to theaters in April 1981 as "Episode IV: A New Hope" Just to answer a few of your questions and correct a few things. There was no CGI back then, all of the effects were practical, meaning models, puppets, costumes, animatronics, real explosions etc. There's even a little person inside R2D2 controlling everything...there are a few documentaries online that show the making of the movies and it was a TITANIC effort. Anything you see that is CGI in the original trilogy was added when they remastered the original trilogy in 1997. It was partly to make it look more updated and more in line with the upcoming prequels and I guess partly to practice with applying CGI effects to the Star Wars world. You kept calling C-3PO, 3-CPO lol. No biggie but just though I'd let you know for the next film. Yes, Lukes planet is called Tatooine. The reason there were so many different types of aliens and creatures at Mos Eisley (where they found Han and Chewie) is because it is a large spaceport and trading hub. There are many worlds in the Star Wars universe that are more homogenous. It's kind of what gives Mos Eisley and other places like it, it's charm. The Galactic Empire rules over much of the Galaxy and was born out of the remnants of the Old Republic. The Empire is ruled by the Emperor with Darth Vader as his right hand man. Once the Imperial Senate was dissolved (this was the last remaining legacy of the Republic) the Death Star was to be used to keep the many thousands of star systems under the Empire in line, united through fear. The prequels explain the fall of the Republic and rise of the Empire. Obi-Wan actually DID die. He was using the force to communicate with Luke. That is what he meant when he said "If you strike me down I will become more powerful" He can now help and guide Luke (who he believes is the only one who can destroy Vader) without actually being there physically. That's also why he looks at Luke before sacrificing himself. That line is so much more epic when you know what he meant. I will try my best to guide you through the movies as you watch them.

Are you going to watch all nine? 4 - 6, 1 - 3, 7 - 9?

I think you explain a little too much here, even though you fortunately avoided the big spoilers. There was a lot of confusion about how, exactly, the Empire was organized way back when the movie came out, and I think it's only fair that VKunia shares that confusion if the intention is to watch the movies as fresh as possible, and learn things at the same time that the original viewers did. Though a little bit could be gleaned from the novelization. It was for the longest time, the only place where we could see what the Emperor's actual name was.

Yes! I am so glad you enjoyed it this much, I absolutely love Star Wars! We shall watch your Star Wars journey with great interest. As always, loved hearing your thoughts on the film, you rock! 🤘🏼

AWWWWW LUIS 😭 I really didn't think I'd like it THIS much so holy moly... I CANNOT wait for Episode V!!! I'm so stoked :)

Just to add some flavor to a few things. C-3PO has an actor in that costume which I'm sure you probably knew but It definitely surprised me when I learned it. The scene with Jabba was originally cut from the film, but added back later. Before they had the huge Jabba puppet, he was a white male actor. They put that scene back in the film and added the CG version of Jabba over the original human actor. The Empire is pretty much an allegory for Nazi's. They just want to rule over people. The actor who played Chewbacca was 7'2". There are no females in the Empire pretty much due to it being the 70s I believe. You'll also notice it's all white people as well. Fun times.

JMCN1990

I hate that im entertaining politics about Star Wars movies...but maybe the cast is mostly white because much of the films were shot in the UK and per union rules many British local actors had to be used? Same when they shot the Hoth scenes in Norway, all of the rebel fighters were Norwegian. I don't know why there were no females shown in the Empire, maybe to make them seem more menacing? You said it yourself, the Empire was loosely based on the Nazi regime. How many female officers were there in the Third Reich? George Lucas clearly had no problem making a female one of the main leads of the entire trilogy.

ooo this is so exciting

We will watch your career with great interest.

I was 6 when this came out for the first time. My mother took us to the drive in and laid a blanket on the ground. She put the drive in speakers by our heads and we watched everything unfold on the huge screen above us. It looked like the space battles really happened in our own sky. It was the most amazing experience. :-) I'm glad you are now enjoying the film discovery I was lucky enugh to make when I was a little kid.

Oouga

3P0: "Where could they be?" VKunia: "At the food court, getting churros." Me: dies

vkunia

I can only imagine that experience, and I envy that amazing memory you must keep dear to your heart, it sounds wonderful. :) I hope to have at least some similar experiences. It mustve made you adore the Star Wars series (is it considered a series since there are so many films? lol) so much more and must be much more sentimental for you :)

vkunia

MOSESSSSSSSS I hope youre doing well, staying care and being careful!! 😊

RX2904

When it came out in '77 I was just three years old and too young to go to the movies, but we did rent it on VHS years later. I remember like it was yesterday, we sat around the little TV in the living room and watched this all-time classic for the first time and I was catapulted into a new universe. After the medal ceremony my Dad just said 'wow, what a movie'. It was the first time I heard him say that and to this day I catch myself saying the same thing in the same way when I see a great movie. My Dad passed away last year but watching and experiencing Star Wars together with him is a memory I will forever hold dear.

vkunia

Thank you for sharing such a near and dear memory that you hold so close to your heart. I can only imagine how sentimental you must be towards this film then. I'm sorry to hear about your father but I'm glad that it sounds like you have some fond memories of him, and that they will always stay with you. :) I like watching these older films because so many people have such dear memories surrounding them and I love hearing about them. Thank you for sharing, the impact from this film must've been enormous on you. :)

im confused. Is there supposed to be no sound to the second content? regular YouTube channel shorts are more entertaining and free

vkunia

Yes I cant distribute a movie on my patreon so you have to sync it up yourself:( it was in the description before you signed up :/ sorry to disappoint

Bruce Bromley

John, copyright rules still have to be followed, even more so when it involves the full movie. You seem to be here for the wrong reason.

Doug Watson

"and also with you" lol. Love it!

Doug Watson

I was hoping to watch The Two Towers with you tonight, but Star Wars is good too. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Kalle-Tapani Isomaa

Star Wars used to be largest but today Marvel is largest franchsise and i mean mcu specificly.

Seems fitting that my first movie viewing on my first paid subscription on patreon be none other than Star Wars. I loved your YouTube reactions and I very much look forward to your full length, so thank you for the opportunity to enjoy them.

What Disney let’s you watch now is the special edition of episodes 4,5,6. To see the original theatrical release, you would have to search for. Unless you knew someone who has it. Which I happen to still the VHS tape version.
