This was a movie that I have heard SO much about, yet knew SO little - I didn't even realize it'd be this wholesome, rad 80's Californian-esque movie that had a lot of heart :')) 🥋🌴🌊

What hurt me so much about Mr Miyagis backstory is how true to life it is. How when in WW2 the US forced all Japanese-American immigrants from their homes and into “relocation centers” taking their livelihoods from them. Despite being stripped of their rights and treated like livestock many men still went out of their way to serve and fight in the military. Even though Mr Miyagi was a highly decorated war hero and patriot his wife still died from the medical neglect our country gave to its own people just because of their heritage.
