You pointed out how Korra didn't land a single blow against Kuvira, and I see this situation as a very interesting inverse of Katara's fight with master Pakku in "The Waterbending Master". Katara also didn't land a single blow, but that means something entirely different in that situation. Katara started that fight KNOWING she would lose, even saying as much, but winning wasn't the point. She had no official training and no experience in fighting another waterbender, so of course she couldn't beat the greatest waterbender alive. But she was only out to prove that she COULD fight. And Pakku had to WORK to keep her from landing any blows. He had to use his decades of training and experience to triumph instead of just swatting her aside. He even compliments her mid-fight for exceeding his expectations, despite still condescending down to her. Despite landing no blows, Katara still demonstrates her capability. Here it's all the opposite because Korra should be able to win this fight. She has training and practice fighting earthbenders through her whole life, from the White Lotus in her youth to her time Pro-Bending to even working out with Toph herself. She's also got the raw power. To see her still get tossed around (easily) shows -- even before she has the trauma hallucination -- that she's still hurting. It's not exciting or fun like watching the Pakku fight was. It's uncomfortable, because we see that Korra isn't proving herself here, she's revealing her own wounded state.
