If you listen closely to Zaheer here you get the answer to a question you had earlier: how did he already know how to airbend? Zaheer says that the members of the Red Lotus were going to be Korra's elemental masters when they tried to capture her as a child, so they would have needed someone to be able to teach her airbending. Basically Zaheer had to learn how to airbend without actually having the ability to do it, so that he could teach a young Korra later.

I find your extreme hatred for Ba Sing Se to be very entertaining, especially in/after an episode that barely has anything to do with the place. You're not wrong though, it sucks hard. As far as your comments about the Avatar connection being a waste of potential if it stays gone... I can see that, but I also like that it's gone in that, as long as it stays gone it means that there have been some actual consequences for Korra's past failure, not everything just works out great because it's a show for kids, it makes what she does matter.
