The Inedible Mattman!

after watching your entire Expanse series on YouTube and the first one of these, I just HAD to sub to your Patreon. I need more of you watching this amazing show! :)

I love that you caught the Allen Iverson reference (and the addition of it in the edit is a fantastic explanation for those that may not get the reference). But yes, definitely emotional spots in these episodes. I look forward to these and your Firefly reactions each week. Thank you so much, Angela!

At first I was like “that sounds familiar” and then it was an exact reenactment and it was perfect! This show us so good!!!

Michael Nolan

I just love how much and how early you are loving this show! Season 1 was like a hug from a parent, just a joy in lockdown. Mr and Mrs Higgins are actually married IRL. "Cindy Clawford" is a great name for a kitty! One of my favourite things about this show is it's habit of subverting your expectations. It shies away from easy drama and has adults acting like adults. As you have pointed out, one of the show's themes is accountability.

I have said "subverts expectations" more in the past few days than I ever have. Whether I'm watching this or Firefly. I love the lack of drama and continuing "will they won't they". It's mature and goofy and heartfelt and silly and everything in between.

Although the UK is on the metric system for most things, they still use miles and miles per hour and certain other imperial units. Their transition to the metric system has been extremely slow.

I said it in the comments of a youtube... comment section. But I'll say it again: those who said "this show will make you feel *good*" did you a disservice. This show will make you *feel*. Good? Well... you can't enjoy the sunny days without a few rainy days, yeah?

Eric

I was gonna make essentially the same point as Michael Nolan: I LOVE that they act like people instead of characters in a tv show. Writers seem to fall in love with the idea of manufactured drama, and it's so damn tiresome. And frustrating. And it takes me out of the show. You said Keely should dump Jamie and that very scene, she did. I don't know if I can think of a show with that kind of confidence; the writers have the confidence to just tell an interesting, compelling story without having to "cheat" with easy drama. I love it. There are a few tangential things I want to touch on, so: 1 - I think we're programmed to accept that shit in movies and on tv, and we mostly do (which is mostly okay?) but it's really nice to have a show without that. The obvious stuff that we accept that's manufactured drama is RomCom stuff; most obviously (off the top of my head, to me, right now) is Ted Mosby in HIMYM. It's different, but a similar thing, where he acts in a way that we accept while we're watching it, because it's the type of thing that happens in a show like this, but when you think about the show afterwards, you're like... this dude *SUCKS*. I'll forgive him a little bit because it's a show; I'll mostly ignore it, because the show is funny and the actors are mostly likeable, but this character actually sucks. 2 - I can avoid spoilers on this one: there's a thing that happens early in season 2 that easily could've gone wrong. But them choosing the real, adult reaction instead of dragging it out for drama, it just *really* makes such a massive impact in being able to like and cheer for these characters. and 3 - Similar in the sense that it's about writers being confident, showing confidence: the 2nd season of "Dexter", the season-long arc, is something that really impresses me. It would've been so easy for them to put it off until season 4 or 5 or 6, then jump the shark, but they just dove right into it, that early. Impresses me every time I think of it.
