Scott is definitely the That Guy of his friend group, and not in the Amos sense.

This is one of my favorite movies, and one of the first times I've voted in a reaction poll and actually picked the winner. lol. You're absolutely not supposed to like Scott. The graphic novels have a bit more space to develop his character and help you understand why he is the way he is (not that it excuses his actions). IMO, one of the other important things the movie leaves out is more context for the Scott / Kim animosity. The novels also explain some of the more metaphysical elements of the story. They've just announced that the entire cast is returning to voice their characters in a Scott Pilgrim anime series. And there's a hilarious reunion "table read" on YouTube that was recorded during lockdown. Jason Schwartzman even starts chewing gum so that he can swallow it when necessary. Wallace is the absolute best; Kieran Culkin's SNL episode is definitely worth watching. (And having finished your Expanse reactions, I'm glad that you left in the Thomas Jane mention, too...)

The biggest magic trick this movie pulls off may just be that it manages to be so enjoyable despite the protagonist being such a terrible person. The colorful visuals, creative editing, and stylish action certainly helps keep things fun, but Michael Cera also makes watching Scott go from terrible person to kinda, sorta, okay-ish by the end much less annoying than it could've been. I love the gag at the end that Nega Scott is actually the best AKA the opposite of regular Scott who is the worst. Time has only made the cast of this movie seem even more crazy stacked than it did on release. Almost everyone in this movie became much bigger in their careers in the years since it came out. The visuals of this movie still make me happy every time I watch it. It is so colorful and creatively put together that there are always more little details to notice, just like most Edgar Wright movies. If you ever watch Scott Pilgrim again, pay attention to all the X's that appear in the environment throughout the entire movie. Another movie with a super-colorful aesthetic that I absolutely love is Speed Racer. It's like the Wachowski's got tired of riffing on moody sci-fi anime after making the Matrix movies and decided to follow those up with a bright and colorful anime movie. It is definitely worth watching if you've never seen it. Or if you want to watch a completely different kind of movie from Edgar Wright, try Last Night in Soho. It is just as well made as the Cornetto trilogy or Scott Pilgrim, but the style and tone are much different. It's worth watching for Thomasin McKenzie's captivating performance alone.

This movie is just so much fun, and the visual effects and supporting characters make it as great as it is. I agree with you and the others…Scott sucks, but it is a movie about growth and clearly he does grow, which is good. But I love that both of the women in this story both go through their own growth, in a way because of what Scott did. Knives went from shy, then got jealous and angry, but what she went through with Scott made her a better person. She’s right at the end…she’s too cool for him. And Ramona, the ultimate Manic Pixie Girl, also went through her own. I’ve had friends who keep getting tied up with exes and can’t let them go…and it’s painful to see. Scott battling her exes let her look at her own history that she didn’t want to talk about, and finally move past them as well. But I agree…I hate at the end that Scott and Ramona end up together(-ish?). I would’ve liked everyone finding their own new game to play.

This is one of my favoritely edited movies. I love how each character has their own part and is instantly unique. Interesting fact that Anna Kendrick volunteered herself to be in the movie because Edgar Wright was directing it. The dialog and the editing are on point.
