I loved your videos about The Expanse, I was wondering if you could do one on Yellowstone, or 1883, or 1923?

This is a great, action blockbuster of a finale that finally pits the two most iconic Doctor Who monsters against each other for the first time in the show's history. This is something many fans had been dreaming about for years and the results are very entertaining. The scene with the Daleks and Cybermen trading insults back and forth has been termed "the bitch fight of canary wharf" and it's not hard to see why, some of the things they say to one another are really hilarious. I also love the addition of the Cult of Skaro to the Dalek and Time War lore. A group of Daleks that have names and were specifically created to think outside the box is certainly at odds with what we've always known the Daleks to be and it shows what a struggle the Time War was that it drove the Daleks to any lengths in an attempt to win. It's not just the Daleks though, we also learn a little bit about what the Time War turned the Time Lords into. The reveal that the genesis ark is a prison the Time Lords used to imprison millions of Daleks only hints at how twisted they had become too and gives more context to why the Doctor was forced to wipe out both races to end the conflict.... It's also very interesting to finally see Torchwood in all its "glory" after over a season of build up and for the Doctor and Rose to be confronted by the results of their actions. After all, it was mainly due to their behaviour that Queen Victoria set Torchwood up. Torchwood symbolises how reckless and arrogant the Doctor and Rose have become on their travels, but it also represents British (and American, I'm not letting you guys off the hook.....😅) imperialism and the harm it causes. It was their greed and lust for power that allowed both the Daleks and Cybermen to fester and grow stronger. Real world parallels can be drawn to how terrorist organisations like ISIS were created and have been strengthened due to the so called "war on terror". All of this comes to a head at the end with Rose making the fateful decision to stay with the Doctor over her parents, voluntarily putting her life in danger which shows how much of an impact the Doctor has had on her and how much she's changed since they met. Yet despite making her choice, the Doctor and Rose get ripped apart anyway because of a war they were party responsible for causing. In a way they get what they deserve for treating their adventures like a game instead of taking the dangers seriously, but it's still heartbreaking because it could all have been so easily avoided. After going through what they did with Sarah Jane and Reinette in School Reunion and The Girl in the Fireplace respectively, it made them unable to admit their true feelings to one another because they knew it could never work, as was shown by how the Doctor left Sarah Jane behind and what happened to Reinette. They didn't want all of that to drive them apart and cause them pain. The same way it did to the Doctor and Reinette. You could see this in several scenes throughout the series, where the Doctor and Rose would come close to discussing their feelings for one another and would then stop short and an awkward silence would follow. The best example of a scene like this is in The Impossible Planet, where they discuss what life is going to be like after they think the TARDIS is lost. They were content to stay together and have fun and adventures, but were unwilling to truly communicate. Rose admits her feelings in the end, but only when it's too late and she and the Doctor are separated by worlds. The Doctor attempts to do the same, but is tragically cut short just as he was about to finish his sentence. It was easier for them to live in blissful denial and this unwillingness to talk and blundering into any danger with smiles on their faces ultimately led to their separation. I love this story and also can't wait to get to series 3! The first series was brilliant and series 2, despite a few misses here and there, is really good overall. Series 3 is where the show really hits its stride though, really looking forward for you to see it!

Well............ what a way to ruin a Monday lol 😆. Can't wait to re watch this great episode again

Companions clumsily tripping and falling over as they fled from monsters and aliens was a grand tradition of the classic Who era that Mickey continues here.

Your Question about Rose: It's a pragmatic solution. It's a forced solution. Is solution the right word? I don't think so. She survived and died at the same time. Can you call it life without your loved one? Yes, she died - from a certain point of view. (...and be curious about the bride. What? What?? WHAT???😉)

I have always thought this was a fantastic curtain closer for Rose's time in the Tardis. It was a lot of fun throughout and then a perfect way for her to bow out. Heartbreaking though her exit was.

Ben

It was originally going to be Mickey who caught Rose just before she fell into the void but it was changed to be Pete as symbol of him 'accepting' Rose as his own. I think you are being too harsh on Pete, he just got a version of his wife back (who he saw go through a horrible death) and was probably still getting his head around that!

This was the reaction I was waiting for and there's a lot of these to go, RTD is good at making finales for the most part! Shame that someone mentioned it was her last series but if it makes you feel better, they usually announce it in the news or press that it's their last season unfortunately so a lot of us probably had similar feelings as you did when it originally released. The good thing is you know who will one day be in the show but you don't know when or which order people are going to make an appearance so it keeps the surprise

Matthew Brench

Who doesn't love the bitch fight of Canary Warf!

Ben

As someone who lost my own Mum at a similar age to Rose, it really bothers me just how willing she is to never see her mother just to travel with the Doctor, especially that line 'I've had 19 years with you' - that doesn't even scratch the surface of enough time with any family member let alone a parent. Also, a little fun fact, the scene at the end of 'The Satan Pit' were Rose runs onto the TARDIS to be reunited with the Doctor was the last scene Billie Piper filmed for the show. One more thing, Mickey fell against the Genesis ark because he was knocked back into it by one the Cybermen that were in the room at the time and it I don't think it specifically needed a hand to touch it, just any direct contact, so it's not as silly as it may seem.

I'm so sorry someone put in a spoiler for you. So unnecessary. My lips are sealed!

The Bride.... hee hee hee... I love Katherine Tate. She's just the best foil for the Doctor ever. You want Chemistry?! Just watch Tate and Tennant! They are fantastic friends in the real world and did one of the best renditions of Much Ado About Nothing I have EVER seen! You will LOVE them in the next episode. (not a spoiler, she's already there)

Matthew Case

I don't know how far in advance you watch episodes, but if you are yet to react to Series 3 ep 4 (Where the next Xmas special is 0, and episode 4 is the 4th episode of season 3), try to look away at the title sequence as it has a minor spoiler in it if you have no prior knowledge.

i LOVE Alex Kingston in docto who! THE BEST!

Well, Rose was stuck between a rock and a hard place. It was either the Doctor or her Mother and she chose the Doctor, which shows how much she had changed (something Jackie talked about in the previous episode) and how far she was willing to go for the Doctor because of how he transformed her entire life. It also shows how self-absorbed and deluded both Rose and the Doctor had become over the course of the past two seasons, and this was one of the main reasons why Victoria created Torchwood in the first place. In a way, getting separated from the Doctor against her will is Rose getting her just desserts for the decisions she made and the way she chose to act. You can absolutely feel sympathy for Jackie because of her daughter choosing to abandon her, but you also understand why Rose made that decision and so it's heartbreaking from her POV too. it's so nuanced and multi-layered, I love it!

Ben

She probably sees ep titles when setting up each ep so i doubt that would make a difference anyway.

Some time after this episode aired Legoland Windsor added some little Easter eggs around its Canary Wharf models, and would move them around every so often... This is one of them: https://www.flickr.com/photos/woolner/3592648710/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/85658522@N00/2677732175

Loved your reaction! With people spoiling things, unfortunately the DW community is pretty bad at giving spoilers to reactors I've noticed. I don't think it's intentional, but happens more than it should. I think maybe avoiding looking at comments, especially on YouTube might be best tbh... Which I know sucks

Carl Wilson

Unbelievable that people are still semi-spoiling things in these threads.

Fantastic reaction - I was so glad to be able to cry along with you. However: The thing that drives me a little crazy about this episode is that Jackie really doesn't have to go the parallel world. As the Doctor *explicitly points out, she doesn't have any "void stuff." She's not going to get sucked into anything. And if she'd stayed with Rose, she could have helped prevent Rose from getting sucked in - she could have done the lever thingy. Now, it would mean getting separated from her newly re-found old love, Parallel Pete, but how much of a connection could that be after like an hour? Obviously the Doctor initially just wants to get everyone as far out of harm's way as possible, and then everything that follows is very chaotic. But it's weird how they put the bit about Jackie's void-freeness in, as if exactly to make this prey upon our minds, and then it's completely ignored.

Chill4xed

We all cried. She was special. We cried. Not as much as when [...], but still. Love this journey with you.

Robin Roberts

The ending was heart-breaking, helped by Murray Gold's haunting music "Doomsday". Yes I cried when I first saw it, and have had dust in my eyes every time I've seen it since, including watching it along with your reaction. If you were devastated by this, you haven't seen anything yet. Just you wait......

When FLG is done with series 4 I think she should watch the 2008 PROMS concert, which is on YT. It's wonderful to hear the music on its own, and a live performance of Doomsday is one of the highlights, as well as a mini-sode, The Music of the Spheres, that made me laugh uproariously AND tear up on first view. Recommending for that point, since there are bits of the concert that would be character spoilers if watched now.

I’m sorry someone ruined it for you. That line “ I’m burning up a sun just to say good bye “ always gets me.
