I absolutely love the build-up in this episode. It's a great mix of mystery and comedic relief molding into suspense. And the cliffhanger! Insane! "Allons-y" is a French word for "let's go". Christopher had Fantastic, David has Allons-y!

O. K. - I assume you watched episode 13 already - then you also know, why Rose can tell about her death - what she meant with "death". And yes: I'ts really a kind of death. 😪 That's the price of the doctor: continuous changes. Perhaps one reason why this "clever boy runs". He runs run and remember. (You'll understand this quote sooner or later. 😉) Next stop: Farcape - i'll think it's getting time to name a baby - CU on Friday! 👋

Edited version when?

I saw this episode when it was originally broadcast on the BBC. At the end when the sphere opens I was like holy f&cking Sh1t (I'm not sure if you can swear on here). I texted my friend who usually watched the show at the same time, using the same sort of language. Fortunately, I did not say what had happened because he hadn't watched the episode and would've have been nightly p!ssed if I had spoiled it. Now the long 5 day wait until Doomsday.

Merkavar

damn internet died a few minutes from the end, had difficulty resynching, apparently patreon had more in the buffer so kept running

So, I really wish that they didn't reveal the Cybermen as early in the episode as they did. I feel it really would have built up the suspense and leave more breadcrumbs. It would have really let it build to where when the Doc notices the two earpieces, we finally realize it too. It would have made the reveal of Mickey being there sudden too. I also like that the voidship also has a very Dalek design. It's basically one of the orbs on their chassis just big with a "void" vfx over top of it.

Osanneart

yes this episode does indeed require a little bit of doctor who therapy after. This is the first time EVER (including the Old Who) that Daleks and Cybermen appear in a single episode, so this caused quite a bit of a reaction when it came out as you can imagine.

MertzRocks

He's also got "Well..." after half the things he says... "Well..." a quarter of the things... "Well..." enough things... :D

MertzRocks

...But BECAUSE we're imperfect, that's why we ARE perfect, just the way we ARE. Oh sorry, that's Baltar from BSG... (sort of). :D

Cyber legacy

This one is really great when I first saw this episode what shocked/surprised me the most was the ending bit tbh because I didn't expect them to end it like that and it got me really excited for the next episode

MertzRocks

Ripping on Jacqui about tea... If you go back and look when she kissed him at the top of the ep, he wiped his mouth and gave a look like "I'm gonna get you..." :D Well...

Rach

I think it's quite smart that they reveal the cybermen early, so that you think you have a handle on what's going on and the Dalek reveal hits harder.

ZapWing

That is a good point I didn't think about. It does help establish the goalpost moving near the end. I do agree that thinking you know the stakes and having that rug ripped out from underneath you also helps build that tension into a second part. I would like to believe RTD probably had a bit of a brainstorm on which path to take for this storytelling direction

Joel Palenychka

Rose changing every time she comes home is exactly like every child that comes home from college. Including having laundry to do.

Alicit

"I need therapy" is such a good reaction to that ending lmao

Ken Penttinen

If you ever re-watch this episode in the future, you will totally see the Cybermen form when you look at some of the "ghosts" now that you know what's happening. :)

Carl Wilson

You should still not spoil things because I'm sure some viewers are watching along with Angela and relying on it being a spoiler-free zone.

Ben

The point Jackie was making to Rose about her changing was the fact that she is changing but not in a good way, she's becoming someone completely different to the Daughter that Jackie knows and that's obviously going to worry her so I think you are wrong to say that it's Jackie's insecurity when what Jackie is saying isn't wrong when you think about the Rose we met in the first ep to the Rose we know now. She wasn't saying that the fact that Rose changing is bad just that how she is changing. Change isn't always good. You said in your discussion that you don't want to be the person you were yesterday, which is fine, but what you describe is changing small ways, whereas with Rose, Jackie can see that her whole personality is changing which isn't good.

funnylilgalreacts

Change is inevitable. A lot of people hate when the people around them start changing, they feel left behind. I think that’s what Jackie is experiencing.

Ben

You are right, change is inevitable, but Rose seems completely oblivious as to what it is doing Jackie when she goes off with The Doctor.

Robin Roberts

Jackie keeps on comparing Rose to becoming more like the Doctor. So, I think the change she is talking about is more deeper and more fundamental than just maturing and the natural change that comes with new experiences. I think that she feels that one day Rose will be like an alien on her home planet, far removed from the person she is now. That Earth as her birth place will be a distant memory.

Doccyy

Yeah especially after the School Reunion episode posing the question with Sarah Jane as to what happens to the companions when The Doctor one day decides to just drop them off at home. Jackie's scared that Rose is one day going to end up in that situation, completely alone with no sense of home, and no way to define herself outside of The Doctor and the Tardis.
