Ed saying that he thinks people should “ignore their race” really does illustrate that he is still naive and has much more to learn which makes sense for his age. In the crunchyroll English subtitles for the Japanese audio it’s translated as “people should get beyond race and talk to each other as equals” rather than “people should try to ignore their race and treat each other as equals” which sounds a little better to me. looking beyond race is pretty different from ignoring it entirely.

tank rounds arent explosive. they are simply heavy and travel so fast that they seem to cause explosions. a depleted uranium tank round flies so quickly, with so much weight, that it can turn a human being into "pink mist" just by flying within 8 FEET of them. the wind pressure from the shell flying by can rip things to shreds just passing by. also Olivier is obsessed with Drachma because she is solely responsible from keeping an entire country from entering Amestris. as such she has to be suspicious of everything or she risks the fortress falling and the lives of her countrymen.

Yeah, a persons alchemy correlates with how much they know of actual science. Chemistry, metallurgy, biology, etc. It’s probably why a lot of state alchemists are specialized (Freezer, Roy)

While the "ignore their race" phrasing is clumsy, it's interesting how often people focus on just that to the point of taking it out of the context of the conversation it's in. Miles makes a "your people did stuff" statement. Then Ed makes a "you people did stuff" statement. Then he end with line about "ignore their race" and "treat each other as equals". In that context, I feel like it's trying to say that people should stop blaming each other for everything associated with their people (their race) and instead start from the point of relating to each other as individuals.
