can someone explain why why this video and me watching the episode is so out of synch? I get it perfectly synched at the beginning but then all of a sudden I am like 10 seconds ahead.... and if I pause and let the video go ahead after a while again I am ahead :c

I'm glad you enjoyed this episode. It gets a lot of hate from people. Undeservingly, I feel. I think it's a fun, sweet, entertaining story. Some people say it's because it's so Doctor-lite, but there are future episodes that are absolutely iconic that are also very Doctor-lite that everyone loves. Naturally, I'm not going to name them, but everyone knows the one I'm talking about :D Only three more episodes this season (and the Christmas special). Ugh. It's all flying by too fast!

Are you on the wrong version maybe? I watched on Max, and it synched up perfectly for me. FLG releases a separate version for bluray and/or Amazon. Which, by the way, is so awesome. Not many reactors provide that kind of service and just shows how much she (and her editor, Xander, I believe) care about their viewers. They are awesome!

I watch it on iPlayer. But how does it matter if it begins at the same frame and time. How can one be so much faster even tho it is running at normal speed. Maybe i will try amazon version next episode cus I remember sometimes it is okay and the other times it is ahead

Cal Potter

if u use iplayer i suggest using the amazon/dvd version, works well for me

I've generally adopted the conventional fan wisdom that this is a bad one, but I was genuinely enjoying this viewing until the reveal of Ursula's paving stone existence and I remembered why it's not very good. It's amazing how one missed edit can change your perspective on an episode of television. The design of the Absorbaloff was the work of a fan who won a contest to create a monster. I've always wondered what they thought of this story. Edited to add: "Doctor-lite" is a term originated by the BBC Wales Doctor Who production team to describe televised episodes which, in order to be able to film all commissioned episodes in time and on budget, don't have an extensive appearance by the Doctor. Inversely, "companion-lite" describes an episode that, for similar reasons, has a reduced appearance by the regular companion(s). (From the Tardis fan wiki.) Edited to add one more thing: "Father's Day" was the first Doctor-lite episode.

Many countries used the PAL format for television which runs at a default of 25 frames per second. The US and some other countries use NTSC which runs at 30 frames per second. In the world of streaming this is often normalized and rarely an issue. However for Doctor Who the frame rate is different on different versions which will lead to it having slightly different timing. (I may have mixed up a few details here.)

Yeah, it's kind of strange. I think it has to do with the framerate. On Max, they show it at one framerate, but the blurays show it at another, slightly different framerate. So one could show at 59.9 fps, but the other shows at 48 fps. (Those numbers are completely made up, btw). It's not really enough to notice a change when you're watching, but over time it can cause quite a difference. A scene that takes 1 minute one place, only takes 56 seconds elsewhere. After 5 minutes of watching, one is 20 seconds behind the other.

The Inedible Mattman!

:) Loved the dancing! You are such a great reactor to watch. Never stop being you!

There's a reading of this episode (which I prefer) that Elton is an unreliable narrator, and everything that isn't through Elton's camera is fantastical cutaway, and so Ursula being brought back to exist as a face in a cement tile may not "actually" have happened. Of course that reading does rule out the possibility that she's the Face of Boe, so I leave you to make your own decision at this point. Absolutely a filler episode, but I don't dislike it; the ELO definitely helps, and I've seen Marc Warren in lots of things (I always see him first as Danny Blue, his role in Hustle) and generally find him to be likable. Don't love the next episode, but on my side of this parasocial interaction I've got a (fantastic) episode of Farscape coming up first. Oh, and "Don't go towards the snarly door" should be on a t-shirt.

v V small spoiler, the alien from the beginning will show up again, as a cameo or a blink and you’ll miss it appearance not a crucial character :)

This episode is so much better than it's reputation. The first section is genuinely uplifting, the second section uses Jackie in an interesting way, and even when people are being absorbed it has a fun, adventurous tone. The ending though. I honestly believe that thirty seconds of judicious cuts could have made this a fan favorite but there are things they decided to keep here that really undermine all the good work that went before. Still better, on the whole, than 'Fear Her'.

Tim

I agree, it is definitely a single watch episode. I think that the second director's unit filmed this episode with a bunch of.....disposable (?), tasty characters while they were filming the previous two episodes. That way the shooting schedule didn't get messed up. I don't think they did it with Eccelston because it was the first of the reboot.

Lee

They did make a Doctor-lite episode with Eccleston: "Father's Day."

Okay, but why! Why the thick alien bush! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Aliens have cloths. I think this is the only time they do that. hopefully =P
