The Inedible Mattman!

No spoilers in this comment. Just talking about what we've seen from S1E1 up until now ... Something interesting about this episode that I never noticed (seen this whole show through at least 4 or 5 times) ... The way he talks about the Cybermen has a lot of the truth spoken in the other episode about the Time Lords. Remember Mr. Finch, the alien posing as a school principal? He talked about the Time Lords saying "they were peaceful to the point of indolence" basically saying they never interfered with the universe, and just sat observing. In this episode, the Doctor speaks about the Cybermen saying without disease and mortality and emotions they would never advance, never grow or change. He's speaking as an expert on what the Cybermen would become, and I always thought he was talking about the Cybermen from our Universe but really I think he's speaking about the Time Lords. Again, this is just using the knowledge we have up until now in this show, nothing from the old show at all. I just thought it was interesting that the Doctor might associate the Cybermen with his own people, talking about what happens when a species no longer worries about mortality or changing under pressure.

Mickey has an interesting arc. In the first episode with Eccleston, she went to his flat to use his computer to look up the history of The Doctor. Mickey's lines were something like "take your kit off" (get naked), then when she asked to use his computer he said sure "but don't look at my browser history". The growth he made, along with waiting every day to hear the sound of the TARDIS, amazing. I think that is a mark of good writing, great companions for The Doctor, as will as great side characters for the companions that are spinked in on occasion.

Mickey is not only in an alternate reality from his ex, he's in an alternate reality in which she never existed, so there is zero chance of him seeing an old photo of her or anything like that anywhere. Talk about getting away to move on... The Cybermen are similar to the Borg in TNG - you are different, so they want to make you like them; The Daleks are more akin to Species 8742 from Voyager - you are different so they hate you and want to wipe out your entire species. I don't know if the actor playing Lumic's assistant was doing an impression, but he does have the same accent- it could just be his natural one. And, I don't know if you've picked up on it yet, but the recurring occurrence of a seriously high stakes cliffhanger that's resolved within the first minute or two of the next episode is a staple of classic Who, where this tactic was frequently used between parts of the episodic serials (which I didn't know at the time I was watching because PBS was broadcasting entire serials stitched together into a big block.) I don't love the next episode, but I do quite like the two-parter that follows, so I'm glad the show has gone twice a week so we can roll through the weaker episodes more quickly.

There's a deleted (extended) scene of Mickey and Jake in the van at the end, when Mikey says "I know it's not easy me looking like Ricky, I'm not replacing him." Jake replies "You never could, I'll never have another boyfriend like him." It's a small line but goes a long way to explain the emotional response Jake had when he realized Ricky died and Micky survived. Edit: disregard, I just noticed someone already mentioned this in the edited version.
