I understood the Bastion origin to be similar to what happened in the Batman Beyond finale that was part of Justice League Unlimited ----Batman TAS / JL / JLU / BEYOND Spoilers ahead---- What happened was that Cadmus / Amanda Waller wanted to ensure that there would always be a Batman, so they found a likely candidate, and injected him (during a routine physical) with a retrovirus that reprogrammed his reproductive organs to produce Bruce Wayne's DNA instead of his own, so when he had children, those children were biologically Bruce's, and one of them could be molded into the next Batman. So I took Bastion's origin as being the same - Nimrod altered the father in order to make alterations to the child he was about to have, resulting in Bastion being born with enhanced technopathic abilities (and those abilities becoming active considerably earlier than normal) which then made Bastion available for MasterMold to download into to avoid destruction.

Happy Mutant Monday, bub. I can still remember the first time I saw the page of "Fatal Attractions" with Wolverine and Magento that the final shot of this episode is directly referencing. My friends were talking about it for days.
