Yes you will see John referencing Star Wars many times like that lightsaber fight with kids . He already did it few times and yes Ridgel was like C3P0. I love this episode because it was just so random and out of nowhere . Yes Castaway definitely .... Wait you go outside into desert I thought you are like Nosfaratu no outside at all. Or is it just into desert during night 😀

This is many people's least favorite episode, even the cast had a lot to say about its flaws. How everyone is acting a little unlike themselves might be one of those flaws, but I like to wonder about those three months (which is about as long as the time from the premiere) and what the three on Moya were doing. (The usual order has this episode right after The Flax, so the closeness between Aeryn and John would have been very new and fresh and then he's gone. I always think he's partly aggro in the beginning because he's a little sexually frustrated after that make out session that he says is never going to happen again.) I think that time alone together must have been hard on each of them in different ways, causing their relationships to shift a little. I really like your thoughts about D'Argo seeing the incipient romance and therefore letting Aeryn decide when to give up!

This is widely considered the worst episode of Farscape, but someone may not know that coming from your reaction! If you didn't know, the title comes from the 1972 Robert Redford movie Jeremiah Johnson, the story of a man who goes off to be hermit in the mountains. I know if its been mentioned, The episode order has been an ongoing issue. The good news is, that is now over. From this point forward all the episodes air in the same order (DVD, production order, Airing order, etc)

Oh, the fuel thing: he has tiny Leviathan-tech engines now (you can see them on the module), so his Earth rocket fuel is empty but he went for a drive using whatever power source Leviathan propulsers use.

"Every once in a while in a TV series, especially one that's just starting up from scratch, you're fumbling, you're looking around, and as the show starts to gel, a magical event happens: You reach an episode where everything comes together. The writing, the directing, the acting, all the production and crafts, and you achieve a magic, magic, perfect episode. We're here today to talk about Jeremiah Crichton because it is absolutely NOT that episode." -David Kemper from the DVD commentary 😂

Esteban M.

It's actually one of Ben Browder's favorite movies. The episode came about during a dinner conversation about the movie he had with show writer David Kemper. You can see the general plot from the film mimicked even down to the beard in this episode.

Josh Harrison

Aeryn doesn't get rattled at all when it comes to threats of violence or physical danger. Her Peacekeeper background sees to that. *Emotional* danger, on the other hand.... she's not really equipped to handle that.

"Im not sleeping im increasing my work efficiency with a chant" I should use that when im at work :D

I don’t know why so many people dislike this episode. I like it! Plus it helps show the growing bond between Chrichton and the rest of the crew. The fact that Crichton was so hurt when he thought they left him and everything the crew did to get back to him.

Darth Muppet

Ah… Jeremiah Crichton… the one episode I always skip on my rewatches of the series. After the episode originally aired, all of us who were in the private mIRC chat room frequented by some of the cast and crew immediately hopped on to discuss. Ever the trooper, Ben actually showed up to the chat room that night. One of the very first comments when he joined the room was something along the lines of “that fake beard looked like someone skinned some roadkill and glued it to your face!” Ben particularly liked that one. Like I said though, Ben was a trooper. He already knew what he was in for before he showed up that night. The episode is one the cast and crew absolutely hated. The DVD commentary track is hilarious with just how merciless everyone on it gets.

I didn’t realize so many people disliked this episode until after Nathanael had edited it and told me that! I didn’t think it was awful. It will never be my favorite, but I didn’t like Rhapsody in blue either.

funnylilgalreacts

I didn’t realize people didn’t like this episode until Nathanael told me. But never underestimate the power of Ben Browder’s abs.

funnylilgalreacts

I actually love this so much. Sometimes people defend things to death and in this case they lean into the fact that it really wasn’t the best they could do 😂

funnylilgalreacts

I really didn’t hate it at all! It’s not the best episode and it will never be at the top of my list of my favorites

Michael G. Munz

It's really such a fun commentary. Ben Browder, Claudia Black, and Rockne O'Bannon are with him for it as well. I'd suggest you find it and listen to it, but there are very likely spoilers for future eps, so don't do that. :D

Lemurling

I would argue that S2:5 and S2:6 are in the wrong order but that one doesn't get correctrd anywhere. *sigh*

Michael G. Munz

My dislike from it comes from how the characters seem to have been switched around a bit. D'Argo acts like Zhaan, and vice-versa. It's not BAD, it's just below the very high bar Farscape usually sets. :)

Rory Owens

I think part of it stems from the cast and crew disliking it so much. Most Farscape fans will have heard, or at least heard of, the DVD commentary for this episode, which had Ben, Claudia and various producers just shitting all over it. I think the other main part is that it's just so very tropey - a race of noble savages who also happen to look like Polynesians, and they take in our hero and teach him their ways. The daughter of the chief falls in love with him, causing strife and discord within the tribe.

OMG Angela! That thumbnail!!! 🥵🥵🥵 😆

Love watching your reactions. Wish we had more episodes back to back to enjoy. This season is a long one (7 more to go) 7 weeks! (9/20/24) till season 1 is done WoW! Thank you for all of your Farscape reactions ❤

I listened to it (When Bad Things Happen to Good Shows) last night, and there are spoilers from 1x15 through season 4 because it was recorded as they were making the conclusion, so probably best left for a post-show behind-the-scenes blitz. One of my favorite bits - aside from the entertaining snark about various missteps (the football helmet in the module in Premiere, for example) or challenges in a number of episodes - is David Kemper talking about something he learned from a veteran producer: That no matter how hard you work, every season (presuming 20+ episodes) will have 2 that are inexplicably outstanding and two that are absolutely terrible, and it's what you do with the rest of them that determines what kind of show you have. That if they'd had 16 of this ep, they probably wouldn't have had a season 2, but thankfully, this isn't representative, and just a conglomeration of what happens when all the missteps happen at once. Also, Ben is hilarious describing Crichton as a flabby white guy, and asks why would the chick want that when she could have the guy who clearly spends all his time in the gym...?

Hank Shiffman

I interpret Crichton's "out of fuel" comment as a reply to D'Argo's complaints about his polluting the atmosphere. They added local tech as a power source, so that's what he's using now that he's out of the Earther petrochemicals.

Notes from a Farscape fan: 1) The Priestons reasoning was essentially big fish small pond stuff. She wanted to keep control over their little community, rather than be a nobody in the 10000-planet-strong Empire. 2) This episode is all about Rygel for me. Let me see if I can express this in a way that will win people over for my favourite muppet. It's not necessarily super obvious, but this episode actually shows a lot about Rygel's very strong sense of ethics. For the whole show so far, we've laughed at what we see as his self-entitled attitude, believing him to be a typical rich dick who believes he is owed everything. This episode shows that Rygel doesn't believe he's owed everything - he only believes he's owed what is due to the Dominar of the Hynerian Empire, which, he kind of is. Monarchies are gross, but by his empire's standards, he actually is owed the benefits of the position. But when he discovers that his predecessor-thrice-removed set up their family to be worshiped as gods, he disapproves. His tone of voice is markedly dour when he reveals that the people of the planet were abandoned to ensure their blind worship. He believes he should be honoured as their king, but not worshiped as their god. The text he reads is also written in specifically Ancient Hynerian, the Hynerian equivalent of Latin or Ancient Greek, which he says he knows because tutors drilled the study into him as a child. It's another of those little snippets of realism I love in this show so much, and does wonders to inform us to Rygel's character. Learning Ancient Hynerian wasn't a hedonistic hobby he took up, it was a Responsibility of the Dominar. He takes his position seriously, and has done since he was a kid, even if he very much enjoys the perks. This is the key takeaway of this episode for me, and something to remember going forward: Rygel is a deeply moral and ethical person with very strong beliefs, they just tend to be overshadowed by his hedonism. It might help to think of it like this: if you were to replace the crew with human analogs, D'Argo and Aeryn would be random soldiers, Zhaan would be a priest, and Rygel would be King Charles III - which now that I write it out, would make for hilarious TV.

"Are you guys still here?" - yes! As an aside, driving into the desert to stare at mountains sounds pretty zen. I grew up near the ocean, and driving down to the water to watch rain/thunderstorms roll in used to be my favorite way to decompress. Been more than 20 years, I still miss the ocean >.<

David Vandervliet

In my opinion you just made it through the roughest Farscape had to offer. And the next few weeks are what a lot of folks have been waiting for!

Darth Muppet

One of the best things about Crichton is just how much of himself Ben Browder put into the character. I honestly don’t know if the show would have worked with any other actor.

Gnaritas 74

Despite this episode rep, have you ever seen a puppet with more personality? You were totally feeling Rigael being a greedy little pig in a pen.

Darren Withers

From a film making view, the comment about being out of fuel and his being reliant on their technology is probably a way of placating the viewers who are privately asking the question "How is it still running after all this time"
