its usually said that this was the weakest eva episode in the series. it's still not that bad though and it says a lot about the show when this is the lowest point

Yep ^ I managed to hold it in when everyone was talking about Episode 7 being the weakest one of the series but I so badly wanted to be like "Are people forgetting Magma Dive?". Not to say that it's a horrible episode or anything, but Episode 7 arguably has more plot and character development, whereas Ep 10 is more middling. But again it's not a bad episode, and ultimately something has to end up at the bottom and I think it's by a decent margin. From here on out all the episodes are stellar, I mean the show has a great beginning anyway but I'm REALLY excited for what we're getting into now

Yeah, I join in ^ this is my least favorite, not saying is bad but but yeah...It still has some interesting things but to me, is almost like the only filler-y episode of the series... to a point ,not quite tho but still. I always took Rei saying she'll do it because well that's just her like when Shinji didn't want to go, she was like "I'll do it" and I do agree tho Misato cares, the picking of Asuka felt like both "hey let's give her her time to shine to boost her moral and her want to pilot" and "okay eva 00 can't be used on this and keeps rei in hq and not wanting to lose shinji/eva 01" I also find it funny how Shinji was like "who would order that wtf?" and they just answer "your dad " lol anyway, next one is one of my faves Episode 10 - Normal Orchestra / Asuka Main (Entering Chorus)

Well, in my memory ep7 was the weakest one, but upon watching it again, I'm surprised how much I loved it. Gotta rewatch Magma Diver now, which was my 2nd least favorite one.

By the way, I'm personally curious on why there's no intro reel of all the cool Eva shots yet. Too many to choose from or do you want to wait until the end?

He said a while back that he was having problems with his PC and that he couldn't render those shots for a while

watching these episodes remind me how much I both miss and love the slice of life moments in this anime

This is often touted as the worst episode in EVA, but I feel people under rate it's importance. Particularly for characterizing Asuka. As for this reminding you of Scooby Doo; that's a TV trope called "Monster of the week". It's often a very tiresome trope but EVA utilizes it quite well by having the plot be secondary to the characters.
