The episode was storyboarded by Hironori Tanaka - the man responsible for the third episode. He was also one of the animation supervisors for the episode. His drawing supervision work should be quite noticeable to even the less keen-eyed viewers. Distinguishable by its high line count, overly detailed hair and cloth folds, as well as his distinct way of drawing fingers and wrinkles: https://i.imgur.com/ZBmHbpc.png Responsible for everything on screen, this week’s ending is done by a self-educated indie animator Masanobu Hiraoka. Specializing in morphing animation, he loves to challenge himself in making lengthy, continual pieces of animation with minimal cuts. Generally sticking to music videos and advertisements, this is only his nth time working on anime. You’ll come across his work again when you inevitably get around to Made in Abyss - the latest work helmed by Masayuki Kojima, the director of Monster. I felt the soundtrack went very silent hill inspired when makima was killing from afar. felt almost like akira yamaoka himself making the ost. great theme for such a disturbing scene.

Wooo was a bit behind so posting E9 comment now and maybe 10 tomorrow! Glad to be over here from YT Mostly just gonna comment on some anime exclusive changes in this ep., your theorizing is always great but I can’t really speak on it lol. The score was fantastic this episode and I LOVED the synth in the background when Makima was standing in the train – it’s an all-time favorite manga page of mine, just such a chilling moment between her standing up and then "I wasn't hit," especially in the manga’s B&W with its shading and timing (the vibe is a bit different in the manga too – she looks taller, leaning forward, glaring harder). There’s a couple really good colorings of the page out there that I like more with dark colors than the bright daylight it gets officially (might throw those in the album I've been keeping of comparison shots). Speaking of Makima scenes, the bits with the convicts in the bus and Makima getting dressed were both anime-only – some nice tension building. (The crows/ravens were also largely added in, there’s only one panel of one raven in the sky after the whole scene is over in the manga.) One other small change from the manga – Kobeni runs out of bullets as soon as she finishes shooting Katana Man, so Sawatari getting away is a bit easier. Not really sure why they changed it, maybe just to extend the action a bit? Not a big change, just pointing it out for thoroughness' sake, I suppose.
