So with this rewatch I think there's a mix of things that are better than I remembered, and things I'd forgotten that I'm not too fond of. Strax is hilarious but they overdo it just a bit here which is a shame. I wish they cut a couple of his lines because it's like 'we get the point' when we're on the fourth mention of hand grenades. Clara and the Doctor's flirtiness is cute but Moffat was writing with one hand again when he wrote that kiss in. The exposition about the Governess was weirdly bad -- like, they had a natural opportunity to introduce it later when the kid is talking to Clara. Why the need to force it in earlier? The one word test is something that is either surprisingly cool or surprisingly lame. This time I leaned toward the latter. BUT, like you said -- it's a lot of fun. Victorian Clara is a great character and a missed opportunity. The fairytale imagery continuing with Matt Smith's doctor and the staircase in the sky. "A man who lives above the clouds". It's all great stuff. And that TARDIS reveal is one of the best. I love how the camera moves into it with the characters, how it's dark at first, how Clara pauses in realization a second before the Doctor flicks the lights on and confirms it. The death thing I'm iffy about. The doctor looks like a fool wagging the sonic screwdriver around and letting Clara just fall from the sky lmao. Also her not bleeding at all and being posed like a model as she falls is a bit silly. I do love the new TARDIS and I wish the doctor's look in the beginning of the episode was turned into his new costume. It looks so great, and I love how he wears Amy's glasses.
