Like others I'm not particularly a fan of this finale, though it has its moments and I'd say I'm not as vehemently against it like a lot of fans tend to be. And like you, I also figured on my first viewing that this finale would resolve all those plot threads from S5-6, but it really doesn't and so it feels inconsequential as a result. That being said, I do like how the Trenzalore and Silence stuff gets resolved later -- in my opinion the way the pieces fit together is quite clever
