It's a good thing all the aliens that actually want to kill humans all have very slow/inefficient ways of killing them, imagine if the Dahleks could come out of reflections and kill you by touching you or lure you in with soundwaves. The Doctor should start carrying equipment outside of his Tardis, whenever something happens to it most of his options are gone. I love this doctor but its been twice so far now he's gone, "I'm out of ideas so let's all just die and see what happens" which none of the other doctors prior have had to turn to. I get that they're just writing it that way so it increases tension but it makes the 11th doctor look like a chump compared to the others, if the 3rd doctor was here he would have judo flipped the entire pirate crew before they could even put him on the plank, and then said, "Forget this flippant band of ruffians let's get out of here" before the Tardis was even taken and just let the pirates deal with it themselves lol.
