Usually when there's a really distinct shot and change in quality on a single frame / expression, it's a straight and exact adaptation from the manga panel - just like that shocked look from Askeladd. Love the care taken by the artists and animators in those moments.

There are a ton of tragic moments throughout this series, but the one that's stuck with me ever since first encountering it in the manga was that shot of Askelaad after hearing King Sweyn's plan for Wales. He's shocked, terrified, and for once, VULNERABLE. It's genuinely heartbreaking knowing what that one sentence did to him. The anime did an excellent job adapting that scene. What makes it particularly heartbreaking is the fact that even though it's a big moment, there's no "BAM, GOTTEM" sfx added. It's just that ionic, melancholic piano from the Dagger OST.

Season 2 comes in january and the trailer looks amazing. The art style is pretty much the same despite the studio shift

Don't know if you were made aware of this, but a trailer for S2 dropped a few days ago! Honestly, I'd like other fan's to weigh in on this, but I felt that while it didn't necessarily give a lot of the plot away, it still showed a lot more than was necessary. Definitely felt like it was geared towards manga readers who would know the panels they were seeing animated. So I'd almost recommend not watching it? Otherwise you might start overanalyzing, but maybe that's something you'd like to do! Anyways, these reactions have been a treat, and I'm glad we have at least one channel who truly appreciates this series for the art that it is. Wanted to get that in now before I finally am freed to rant on bigger picture themes from this season after you've seen the finale next time!

As you said, the trailer doesnt spoil but still shows a lot. Filmbuff should definitely not watch it as observant and analytical as he is. And knowing him he would probably want to go into season 2 completely blind

Finally getting closer to the Season 1 Finale, can't wait to see your reaction and thoughts about it since its one of my favorite episodes of the show As the others are saying, Season 2 trailer just dropped. It has finally been confirmed that MAPPA is going to produce the second season, however it will not make any difference at all since almost the entire staff that worked on Season 1 have returned for Season 2. And it seems that it has been in production for a while now so hopefully there wont be any production issues either

Just wanted to say that I personally did see a quality and animation difference in the trailer for S2. That's just for me though, others might be less critical. Just giving a heads up to not expect the same exact animation from S1. Great reaction as always, and looking forward to the finale!

I literally could give you multiple shots of the trailer and some of season 1 and you wouldn't be able to tell the the difference, in my opinion it's 95% season 1 and 5% mappa, the cgi is the only major role that was changed in the staff from season 1.

Were the faces/characters' design the same as in S1? Because there's a huge difference between S3 and S4 in the characters' faces in SNK (which is for me one of the reasons why I really don't like Mappa taking over SNK and Vinland Saga). I won't watch the trailer for S2 (to avoid spoilers) so that's why I'm asking :)

It's the same core staff (including character designer so the designs are in the same style as before) as from S1 with the exception of the CG Director. While yes the animators are gonna be from Mappa, they will be receiving the direction/guidance of those people who have already worked on S1, so the difference in visuals will be minuscule and the trailer reflects that. Also the studio that does the backgrounds is also back on board, so no change in that department either. This is not a AoT S4P1 situation where almost all of the core staff was new to the show and then they had to figure out how to do 16 episodes in a year's time. Season 2 of VS is basically a passion project that was, from what I've read, brought to life by Yabuta and Abiru and I am eternally grateful to them for their passion of the original work.

I can’t believe we are so close to the end of season one already. It’s been such a joy watching you love one of my favourite stories and my Saturday mornings (I’m from the UK so I wake up to the patreon alert that you have uploaded) won’t be the same. You really are a light at the end of my work week. Watching you react to this masterpiece of a show makes me remember why I love reactions (when they are done right) Watching someone love and passionately engage with something I love is just such a joy. With the news that that season 2 is coming Winter season 2023 I’ve been particularly emotional this week about this story that Yukimura has crafted. Thorfinn’s story without going into details obviously is well and truly masterful and I can’t wait to keep watching you experience it for the first time. Season 2 will be fully up your alley. Now onto the finale … I simultaneously cannot wait and don’t want it to end!
