Back in 05-06, the shows were so huge, everyone could imagine them lasting forever.

Christopher Eccleston left after one series principally because he disagreed with the way senior executives on the show and the BBC were treating crew. At the time I think it was just stated that he left because he didn't want to get typecast in the role. Fans always suspected there was more to it and in the last few months he has talked more about it - particularly about bullying in the industry and how the BBC effectively "black-listed" him afterwards. It was one of the reasons he went to the US &amp; Hollywood appearing in TV shows like "Hereos" and movies such as "GI Joe" &amp; "Thor:Dark World". He also recently taken up his stage work again and has just made his Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) debut as MacBeth (<a href="https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2018/mar/21/macbeth-review-christopher-eccleston-royal-shakespeare-theatre)" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2018/mar/21/macbeth-review-christopher-eccleston-royal-shakespeare-theatre)</a>
