Thanks for the support everyone! So what's better? Sending files dropbox/drive links through email, or sending them here through the message system in Patreon? Even if they're NSFW that's still okay right? I'm still a little confused on how NSFW artists update and share their content in a way that doesn't violate Patreon's rules.

I upload my NSFW content just fine but I have a monthly campaign. I haven't really recieved any flack about it. But now I'm starting to second guess myself... I'm thinking that a warning that content is NSFW suffices but now I don't even know anymore... lol

Hmmm, I'm concerned because Patreon disallows pornography. For now the idea is to upload SFW cropped posts (as creations - so as to charge patrons), and then send the high-res files, PSDs etc, out through messages or email.

I see... maybe that's true (I'm still not sure though). Actually this raises another concern... New patrons should have access to past rewards, no? Like, if someone pledges $2 they should be able to immediately view all previous creations at that tier and then be charged for each new one? If that's true, I should be sharing file links here when I drop a new creation... Still got a few things to figure out.

My suggestion is to post SFW crops via "Activity" feed and the full NSFW images via Patron-Only "Creation" feeds. That way, people on the outside can get a teaser directly on your Patreon, but only your Patrons will see the full thangs. :)

Hmm, this is probably not a bad idea. Though the creation posts get shared on the activity page as well, and all the images get posted to Tumblr anyways. So I'm wondering if it's worth risking when some of the images could be more explicit. I'm mainly concerned with trying to give out the rewards though.

Yeah, it'll pop up on the activity feed as well, but it can't be seen unless you're a supporting Patron. As far as rewards go, I give out my rewards every week per a special Paid update that only specific Patrons can see. That way when people sign up, they can go and download it themselves if they need/want to. If you go the email reward route, remember that you'll be constantly going back and forth and emailing new patrons old content over and over again. The method I use involves more watching of the patrons whether their payment method is declined and such, but it's the most stress-free system, I think.

Okay... I'm still new to this, and I want to do it the right way. What do you think the common expectation is? For example, if a new patron signs up at my $5 level is it expected that they should then be able to download all previous rewards that were posted before their pledge date? Or are they just on board for all new updates and rewards only? If they should be able to access past rewards at their convenience then I should probably post a paid creation along with free posts locked to specific tiers (containing links or whatever). If they only get new rewards that come out after their pledge date, then I should post a paid creation and then send out links to patrons (do I have this right?). Thanks for your help by the way!

One of my patrons looked into it thoroughly and I think his response brings light to the whole situation as to what's appropriate and what's not: "EdwardGein I just browsed through the ToS and the FAQ. ToS mentions only "no adult content for non-patrons" i.e. only SFW for anyone who stumbles upon this creation. FAQ mentions that they're cool with NSFW, as long as it's patron-only, but forbids pronography. Which is not what you're providing. The upload isn't mentioned at all, so I think you should be in the clear. When the material you provide is accepted by their ToS, why should they be bothered with the method of upload?" Hope this helps you like it helped me!

Ah, that does help shed some light on the subject. I couldn't find where it mentions that in the ToS, but I did read the bit in the FAQ. I'm still a little confused (or maybe I'm just being paranoid at this point), because it mentions being okay with "sexual content", but says that it still prohibits things like intercourse / body fluids, etc... which is sometimes what I do. It doesn't say whether the term pornography is limited to photography and videos (or if it also applies to art), only that porn is defined as material meant to arouse. Ugh... maybe I'm thinking about it too much. Think I'll just try uploading anyways and setting posts to private.

Yeah, you'd have to use your better judgment as to where you want it always available for new patrons to grab or not. It's less of a hassle, but I think as long as you manage whether their cards are declined, etc., you'll be alright. Kinda like some of those subscriptions where once you pay regularly, you have access to all the legacy content. And no problem! You have great work. ^^
