“It’s not fair, sniff, I didn’t nothing wrong, sniff~.” Mary said to herself, crying alone in an empty classroom after school was over.

“Mary?” Bee, Milagro and Pino enter the room, seeing their friend crying. They had never seen her like this before. She was the one that was always brightening their moods, but lately she had been acting strange. It was as if she was trying to distance herself from them.

This all started after Bee’s sleepover, and they all were granted Sailor Scouts magic. Bee controlled electricity, Milagro and Pino controlled fire and for Mary she controlled water. It was a dream come true for all of them to be bonded like this, but such gifts come with a cost and that was truer for Mary.

Bee’s mother loved that her daughter was expanding her natural magic talent, and Jaime was doing his best to be supportive to Milagro, knowing how dangerous fire could be. However, for Mary all she had was Mr. Terrific, and he wasn’t one for emotions. He saw her powers as a subject to study, not to encourage. In fact he went as far as to forcing a bracelet on her that would shock her anytime she used magical powers outside his presence. Because of this she requested some time off from her magic classes.

He deemed them too dangerous and that he was doing this for her own good. Though he was blind to see the pain that he was causing her. His tests became more extreme as the days past and he even left visible marks all across her body. To make sure that no one would find out she was force to wear a special lotion that hid her bruise and scars.

Mary wanted nothing more than to tell her friends what her adoptive father was doing to her, but she didn’t want to hurt them by telling them. Bee was going through a lot trying to figure out who she was after leaving the Batman behind and Milagro didn’t have the mental fortitude to be able to cope with this. She had to bear with this. However, even if she wanted to tell them the truth she couldn’t. Her adoptive father made sure that she would never be able to speak about this in front of anyone.

“Bee? Milagro? Pino? What are you doing here?” Mary asked, hastily wiping the tears from her eyes.

“You know why we’re here,” Bee said to her, angry that he best friend didn’t come to her for help. While she may have finally given up being Batman, she still retained all f her skills. She knew that Mary was hiding something for  them so she did a little investigation into her family life and she was appalled by what she found.

“Nrut ffo lla cinortcele secived dna cigam noitceted erawtfos!” Using her magic Bee disabled all electronics in the room and made sure that it wouldn’t be noticed by Mr. Terrific.

“It’s s-safe to talk now~,” Milagro said to Mary. Bee had told her everything and there was no way that she was going to stand by and let her friend suffer and Pino was in full agreement.

“I don’t know what you mean?” Mary said, still trying to hide it from them, but her three friend weren’t going to let this go any further. “We should get going, my dad’s going to pick me up soon. I best not be late, he’s very strict to punctuality.”

“Mary, please stop,” Bee said to her, grabbing her hand as she tried to leave the room. “You don’t have to hide it anymore…please don’t run away from us…we’re Sailor Scouts…remember?” Tears started to flow out of Bee’s eyes. She was in pain because she didn’t do anything sooner. She knew that Mr. Terrific’s personality when it came to experiments, she just never knew that it would involve his own daughter as well.

“Pl-please~,” Milagro said, grabbing Mary’s other hand, with Pino grabbing it with one of her legs. “We…we’re her for.”

“N-no I…I’m…I’m not fine!!!” Mary yelled finally letting what she had bottled inside of her out, crying as he friends hugged her. “H-he hurts me! I don’t like him!! I hate him! I hate him! He’s a bad man~!!!!!”

Despite how Mary acted, jus like the rest of them, she was a child. The main thing that made her different from children her age was her higher level of intelligence. It was good that she was able to meet girls like Bee, Milagro and Pino that could understand her and didn’t think that she was weird. Though right now what she needed wasn’t logic or intelligence, but love.

“MARY!!!” Bee, Milagro and Pino hugged their friend, allowing her to cry without fear. She could only imagine what t was like for her to bear with such a man like Mr. Terrific.

After several minutes of crying, Mary finally started to calm down a bit.

“Sniff I’m sorry, sniff, I didn’t mean to cry like that,” Mary said to them, hoping that he friends wouldn’t see her any differently now.

“You have nothing to apologize for~,” Bee said to her. “She was happy that her best friend was finally opening up to her. “This isn’t your fault, it’s his. Mr. Terrific has gone to far and needs to be punished for his crimes.”

“But, how?” Mary asked. She had thought about running away for the longest time and showing people the truth but Mr. Terrific wouldn’t let that happen. She belonged to him and there was nothing that they could do about it.

“My mommy will help,” Bee said to her. “She will tell the League and they’ll take action~!”

“I’ll tell our big brothers as well~!!!” Milagro said, referring to Jamie and the blue scarab.

“You girls are the best, but I don’t think that it will be that easy,” Mary said to them. “He is the 3rd smartest man in the world, there is no way that he will be stopped so easily.”

“Leave that to us~!!” Bee said pulling out a recording device that she acquired from Damien, and Milagro showed that Pino had recorded their who conversation. When we show this to our family the League will have to step in.”

“I hope-”

“BEEP! MISS MARY LOCATED! CONNECTING TO MR. TERRIFIC!”

All of a sudden out of nowhere a T-sphere came into the room and seconds later a holographic image of Mr. Terrific was being displayed before them.

“Mary where are you? You were supposed to arrive at the car exactly 2 minutes and 34.3 seconds ago,” he said to her, not even caring that she was with her friends or that her eyes were a tad bit swollen from all of her crying.

“I’m sorry father,” Mary said standing up, and walking over to the sphere, even though she didn’t want to. She knew that nothing could be done, but she was at least now in a better mood than before thanks to her friends.

“And you,” he said looking over at Bee. “You owe me for that magical EMP you cast earlier. Even though you’re no longer the mighty Bruce Wayne, I’m sure that you still have some assets to use.”

“You’ll get what you deserve,” Bee said to him, furious that she couldn’t attack him right now.

“Yes, I will, and make sure that you stay out of my business,” he said to her. “Come along now Mary it’s time for some more tests. And call me Mr. Terrific, father is a bit much, don’t you think?”

“Y-yes…yes Mr. Terrific,” Mary said, slowly following the T-sphere out of the room.

“Bee, are you alright?” Milagro asked her friend, seeing the painful expression etched across her face. She hated that she couldn’t do anything to help her best friend at the very moment. She need to be patient.

“I’m not fine, but I have to be, for Mary’s sake,” Bee said back to her. “Come on, my mommy is going to be here soon so we can show her our proof,” she said bringing Milagro outside to where her mommy was waiting for them.

“Bee, Milagro, how was school?” Zatanna asked them as they entered the care.

“It was alright mommy,” Bee said back to her mother.

“Hmm, I don’t see Mary with you today either,” Zatanna said to her sweet child. Is there something the matter?”

“Mommy, Mary is in trouble, she needs help,” Bee said to her mommy. She knew that telling her now that they had proof was the best thing that she could do.

“I know sweetie~,” Zatanna said back to her. Ever since the sleepover Zatanna had been trying to find ways to help Mary, but her attempts were in vain, but it would seem that both John and Bee had both come up with evidence. “Mommy has been trying her best to her best to help the poor girl, but Mr. Terrific is not easy to deal with. Luckily, I managed to convince the other members of the League that there was a problem with Mr. Terrific’s current actions. Tomorrow we are holding a meeting. You three have been allowed to join since this involves you. Are you three alright with going with me to the watch tower.”

“We’ll go, for Mary,” the three of them said, agreeing to help their friend.

However, no matter how righteous their cause was. There was still several complications that had to be dealt with. The biggest one was Mr. Terrific. He knew that Zatanna was trying to butt in on his plans, but he wasn’t going to allow anyone to stop him. He finally had a chance to study magic and there was no way tat he would give it up so easily. And that was something that Bee and Zatanna were just about to learn that.

“Hello there Zatanna and Bee,” Mr. Terrific said through Bee’s recording of earlier. “I bet you’re wondering why you’re hearing me instead of my precious daughter Mary. It’s easy to say that I just hacked into this flimsy recording device and delated the original and replace it with this. I know that you may think my actions are wrong, but this is all for the sake of knowledge.”

“In the pursuit of knowledge we have to take risks and we need to cause some harm. I know that forcing my adopted daughter to become my lab rat may appeal you, but she herself will tell you that I have done nothing wrong. Isn’t that right Mary?”

“Yes father~,” Mary happily said in the recording which shocked both Bee and her mother. She was crying her eyes out before, there is no way that she could be acting like this.

“I know, I know, I bet you’re wondering why Mary sounds so energetic, and that’s thanks to me. I finally managed to reach her after today, showing her that my work means so much to the world. When we appear before the League they will all see that you’re trying to slander me. And don’t even think about using your magic to try to force me to reveal the truth. Thanks to Mary I have created technology that can block out your magic. Don’t try to fight me Zatanna. You finally got the family you have, don’t waste it away. In fact tomorrow at the League meeting you should convince them to allow me to train Bee and Milagro as well. Tech and magic is very powerful when put together. I’ll give you both some time to think about it, though I already know what you will choose~.”
