BUZZ! BUZZ! BUZZ!

“Huh?” Kirito woke up to the sound of his phone buzzing on his desk. He had spent the entire night playing an old RPG game called Final Destiny 14. It was supposedly a popular game back in 2016.

“H-hello?” Kirito said, still trying to wake up.

“Kirito, did I wake you up?” Silica asked him, looking at the time to see that it was already 1 pm in the afternoon.

“Uh, no…you’re fine,” Kirito said to her. “So, what’s up Silica? It’s been a while.”

“Exactly~,” Silica said back to him. “We haven’t been able to see each other in a while and that sucks! So, I was thinking do you would like to hang out today~?”

“Sure, I have nothing to do today,” he said back to her delight. He couldn’t see it, but she was jumping up and down in excitement. Finally, she could have Kirito all to herself with the others staying out of her way.

“So, what do you have in mind?”

“Well today there is a demo being held for a new Vr game that comes out next year,” Silica said, piquing his interest. “They said that the first day you are there they help you create the perfect avatar. And luckily for me, I managed to score myself two passes to play the demo.”

“Silica that’s amazing!” Kirito said, eager to try it out. “Where should we meet up?”

“How about at the station near my place,” Silica said, making sure that he would have to come to her so she would have time to get ready.

“Sure, that sounds great,” Kirito said to her before hanging up the phone. He then spent a few minutes taking a shower and getting dressed before heading out, though Suguha stopped him before he left.

“Hey bro, where are you going?” she asked while eating a cup of yogurt.

“I going to meet with Silica,” he said to her, outing on his shoes. “She said that there was a demo for a Vr game that’s coming out next year and wants to check it out.”

“And are you sure that you want to go out looking like that?” she asked him. He was barely dressed at all, wearing plain blue jeans and a black shirt. If he was going to meet with Asuna, he would have definitely put more effort in.

“It’s fine, it's just a meetup with a friend,” he said back to her not realizing what she was trying to tell him. Oh well, it would seem that Silica would be a bit disappointed when they meet.

“I’ll be back before dinner,” he said before leaving the house.

About half an hour later he finally got off at the station where Silica was waiting for him, wearing a lovely pink dress and a cute purse. Several guys had actually come up to her to ask her out, but she denied each and every one of them, since they were her type, and she already had a partner to hang out with for the day. Though she didn’t mind the compliments she was receiving at all.

“Wow, Silica you look amazing,” Kirito said, walking up from behind her.

“K-Kirito, you look…. nice… as well,” she said a little depressed after seeing on how underdressed he was compared to her. She knew that he probably didn’t see this as a date, but she had hoped that he would have at least looked the part.

“So, where are we heading?” Kirito asked her, not noticing that she was saddened by how he was dressed.

“Just follow me~!” Silica said, pulling herself out of her slump. Just because he didn’t dress didn’t mean that her plans were ruined. In fact, this worked out since after they check out the game she could convince him to go shopping with her so she could personally pick out some new clothes for him~. She may be a bit younger than he was but she was going to try her best!

After several minutes of walking together, they finally arrived at where the demo of the game was being held. Outside the building was a line of people, each one eager to play this new game. Lucky for the two of them, Silica managed to get them a Gold Pass, allowing them to skip the line and go straight into a special area where they could get a premium experience of the game similar to what the Beta testers would get.

As they were led back they were intrigued to see that instead of headsets there were giant human-sized pods filled with a strange green liquid. The demon players wore swimsuits and lay inside the pods. It was quite interesting to Kirito who wanted nothing more than to know how it worked, and lucky for him someone was just about to do that.

“Welcome, ~!” A salesgirl said to them as they finally reached the back where those with the Gold Pass were brought.

“You two are especially lucky to try out the full specs of the demo unlike everyone else out there~. As you might have noticed, we use pods instead of just headsets, like other VR games.”

“This system was engineered to make sure that the SAO disasters never happen again~. The only thing that you will need to do is put these on after the presentation is done, she said handing the two of them plain male and female black swimsuits.

“Our pods are filled with a self-replication nanobot liquid as you have seen before. These nanobots while connecting you to the game and encase your body into a green liquid. This liquid will increase the immersion of the game tenfold and not to mention that it will allow you to play for longer periods of time.

The pod will be constantly monitoring your vital signs as well as providing your body with the nutrients it needs to survive so you don’t even have to worry about playing it for three days straight without getting out of it. Though for legal purposes and safety the game will automatically log you out after five days of continuous play. Luckily for you, if you do decide to do that, you will not have to worry about the bathroom at all~. The pod will take care of it.”

“That’s amazing!” Kirito said to her.

“I agree,” Silica said amazed by what this pod could do.

“Oh, there is still more~,” the salesgirl said to their surprise. “While this hasn’t been implemented in the other demo pods, those with the premium pass will be able to experience something quite amazing. The more you train your stats in the game the more your own physical or mental strengths will increase as well. While the increase of strength, speed, and intelligence won’t increase as much as they do in the game, you will start to see a change after a while. We eventually plan to use this feature in the medical field as well to help with rehabilitation.”

“However, this feature will only be activated if you agree to it. While the government has given us permission to use this feature, it is still experimental, so there is no need to force yourself to accept it.”

“I’ll definitely accept, Kirito said to her.

“Kirito are you sure?” Silica asked, concerned about him.

“Don’t worry Miss, he will be fine,” the salesgirl said, handing Kirito a piece of paper to sign. “You two won’t be able to play today, and we are always working out the kinks in the system so there will be nothing to worry about.”

“Wait if we aren’t playing today then what are we doing?” Kirito asked the salesgirl.

“Today the two of you will be creating your characters,” she said leading them over to an open pod. “Here you will put in your personal data as well as contact information. Once that is done the two of you will enter the pods and it will proceed to scan your bodies to make sure that everything you put in is correct. This is a feature that those without the Gold Pass do not possess either.”

“Sounds great!” Kirito said putting in his physical data. Though as he did, he made one small error and that was with his height. Instead of entering 175cm for his height he accidentally put in 145cm.

Alright, sir, now since your data has been inputted, please changed and enter the pod,” the salesgirl said, leading him to a room to get changed while Silica entered her data.

After getting changed Kirito git into the pod and watched the green slimy liquid start to cover his body. He was a tad bit scared when it covered his mouth, but surprisingly it didn’t feel as if he was drowning. It felt natural and relaxing.

“Alright sir, please wait here for the next several minutes so the pod accurately scans your body,” the salesgirl said before going out to help Silica who was worried that the black swimsuit that gave her was too sexy for her to wear even though it was a one piece.

After a few minutes passed the machine started to make an odd said. Worried Kirito, looked around, but it would seem that the salesgirl was still helping Silica.

ERROR! BODY PARAMETERS DO NOT MEET THE GIVEN DATA! MUST FIX ERROR!

Huh? What wasn’t talking about? Kirito had no idea what was going on but didn’t have the time to question it.

BZZZTT!

“Ow!” Kirito tried to yell, but his words were muffled by the liquid.

BZZTT! BZZZT! BZZZTT!

The machine started shocking him several times before he heard a ding, and the pod began to drain the green liquid back inside of it and released him.

“Ow,” Kirito said getting out of the machine. “What the heck was that about?”

“Sir is there something wrong? The salesgirl asked him. It would seem that she finally managed to help Silica and was just waiting for her to finish scanning.

“I think that there is something wrong with this machine,” Kirito said to her. “It started zapping me during the process and it was saying that there was something wrong with my body parameters.”

“Hmm, that’s odd?” the salesgirl said checking the pad connected to the pod. “It says right here that your data was scanned and stored correctly. Perhaps you just imagined it,” she said to him, making sure that he didn’t notice her push a button on the pad with then displayed test #68. Unfortunately for Kirito, he would not figure out what was happening before it was too late.

“You’re probably right,” he said agreeing with her. To be honest, he could have just imagined that, and the shocks could have been him hitting his funny bone.

Kirito went and got changed back into his normal clothes while waiting for Silica to finish up. Once she was done the salesgirl handed them a card.

“Thank you both for stopping by today~,” she happily said to them. “This demo is very popular and for that reason, we have decided to split up people into certain groups. The next available date for you to come down is in two weeks. Please made sure to keep your Gold Passes and this card on you when you return or else we will have to do everything over again~. Thank you once again and have a good rest of your day~.”

“Kirito are you alright?” Silica asked him, noticing that he seemed a bit pale.

“I’m fine,” he said, lying to her. To be honest, he felt lightheaded, perhaps he was getting sick.

“Kirito if you need to go home and rest then please do so,” Silica said, worried that it was her fault for bringing him here. While they still were excited to play the new game, both of the found it odd how they reacted. She was lucky that Kirito told her after she got changed.

“I think getting some food inside of me will make me feel better,” Kirito said to her. Whenever he felt sick, he always felt better after getting some food inside of him.

“Sure!” Silica said, happily going along with him to one of his favorite burger joints where they spent the next hour together eating. Once they were done Silica could see the color return to his face and Kirito felt much better.

After that, they made their way over to a clothing store where Silica helped Kirito pick out a new set of clothes. After passing by a window, he saw his reflection and realized that what Suguha told him was true. Silica looked amazing and he looked extremely average. So, to his dismay, he chose clothes with light colors and a white jacket.

Ugh, Asuna would laugh at him for this. She knew that he was awkward wearing lighter colors, that’s why he’s always chosen to wear darker clothes, mainly black ones at that. The things he does to make his friends happy.

“You look amazing~!” Sicilia happily walked with him down the street. She loved that he chose clothes to match hers. In fact, they now looked like a couple, and she loved it! Though she still couldn’t bring herself the courage to hold his hand, it was just too embarrassing for her right now.

“Are you sure that you’re okay getting home from here?” Kirito asked her as they were about to part ways.

“I’ll be fine, but, um, Kirito if you don’t mind could we…. meet up tomorrow? My Fathers birthday is coming up and I don’t know what to get him. It would be nice to have a boy to help me find something that he would like, and since you’re the only boy that I’m close to…”

“Sure, I don’t mind,” He, said to her, willing to help her out after what she did for him today. “Rath told me that they don’t have anything currently lined up for me to do so I’m free for a while.

“Thank you so much~!” Silica yelled, before energetically running home.

Kirito smiled at her before heading back home himself. When he finally reached his bedroom the fatigue that he was fighting the entire day without Silica’s knowledge hit him like a brick and he passed out cold on his bed.
