“Josh, I’m sorry, but my brother has already left for work,” Lila said, entering the house. “We may have to try again tomorrow.

“Check this out, “I said, handing her the letter.

“What the hell is this?” Lila said, saying the same thing as me.

“We don’t know,” I said to her.

“It’s almost 4 pm. Should we wait and see what happens?” my mother asked.

“I guess there's no harm in it,” I said, sitting down on the couch with them, turning on the tv, and changing it to channel 13. After waiting several more minutes, what looked like a conference had just started. We watched as an older female walked up onto the stage.

“Thank you all for coming today,” she said to the crowd. I am pleased to announce that the fifteenth annual Pokémon Research Conference hosted in the Paldea Region has begun. We have many speakers here eager to showcase and discuss their findings over the past year.

“For our first guest, we have Professor Cacturn,” she said as an elderly man walked up on the stage.

“What the heck even is this?” Lila asked.

“This is the research conference that your father is taking part in,” my mother said to her. “Supposedly, he has made a groundbreaking discovery that can change the relationship we have with Pokémon. He told me from time to time what he was doing but was never that clear with what it was. I wonder why?”

“Thank you, Professor Cacturn, for your theory that there may be even more ways of using a Miltank’s Milk,” the announcer woman said. “Does anymore have any questions?”

“Do we really need to watch this?” I asked.

“Of course we do,” my mother said to me. “I’m sure that your father has a good reason for wanting you to see this. Besides, isn’t it fun to learn new things?”

“I guess so,” I said to her. My father may be a deadbeat in my life, but my mother more than made up for his absence in my life.

We continued to watch the conference for the next two hours, waiting for my father to show up, getting up and getting snacks as we did.

“Now introducing Pokémon Researcher Marcus Dust,” the announcer said as he took the stage. I hadn’t seen him in years, but his crazy hair, giant glasses, and five O’clock shadow were easy enough for me to remember.

“Thank you all for having me here today,” my father said to the crowd. “Today, I am glad to reveal to you all that my colleagues and I have discovered something that can change the way we view and interact with Pokémon.”

“I know that my statement sounds farfetched and that studies like this are more theoretical than anything, but I can assure you that I have proof.”

“Mr. Dust! Mr. Dust!” a professor from the stands called out to him before he was even done with his speech. “You say you have proof, but I find that hard to believe. The relationship between humans and Pokémon is already at the peak of what it could be. Pokémon have driven us to the point we are today, so tell me how you plan to explain that there is a way to change the way that we view and interact with Pokémon.”

“I could spend the rest of the conference explaining to you all step by step how I came across my discovery, but I would rather show you,” he said, holding out his hand, picking up a humanoid Pikachu out of nowhere and placing it on the podium in front of him. What I found strange was that the Pikachu was wearing a suit.
